Like a bear, I thought Toshiba laptops were to go into hibernation once here and there. Here's what happens ---

When on battery power, the laptop will after a bit go into hibernation and the little red indicator will show it to be so.

But --- when plugged in, this happy laptop stubbornely gets a case of amnesia!!!

Can one (or two or three) explain how I can get this machine to go into the same hibernation while plugged in to AC as it does on battery power.

Please type all responses very slowly in order for me to follow the instructions correctly. Thanks!

I'm sorry Hep --- I'd meant to mention that I'm using Vista Home Premium with Service Pak 1.

Click on your battery icon with right mouse button (next to the clock), scroll to and select "Power Options" from the drop down menu, on whichever plan you have selected press the blue link under it called "Change plan settings", then on the blue link on the bottom called "change advanced power settings", then scroll to and double click "Power buttons and lid", then double click on "Power button action", then press "plugged in" and a drop down menu will appear next to it allowing you to choose hibernate. Once you do, all you need is press the power button and your computer will go into hibernation mode...I think other options in those sub-menus are self-explanatory but if you have any questions you know what to do.

I myself prefer sleep mode cause it wakes up faster.

Thank you Mr Teo for this response. In my Power Button, the word *hibernate* is not there, but *sleep* is --- and that was already set up to go.

What I did find from another forum, was that in the Multimedia settings, under *plugged in* it had been set at *Prevent idling to sleep* so I changed that to *allow computer to sleep* --- then suddenly & without warning, at the appointed time, this laptop fell into a long needed deep sleep.
It's so peaceful looking setting here on my desk, I dare not wake it up, fearing it might fly into a rage and burst into a ball of flame!!!??!
But seriously, I think that did the trick. I appreciate you coming in on this and giving good advice. Thank you sir!!!
