I am all set to get a Toshiba P100 Satellite:
    Intel® Core™ Duo Processor T2500 (2.0GHz; 2MB L2 Cache; 667MHz FSB)
    2048MB PC4200 DDR2 533MHz SDRAM (1024MBx2)
    17" Widescreen XGA+ TruBrite™ display (1440x900)
    NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 7600 with 256MB discrete graphics memory
    80GB HDD (5400rpm, Serial-ATA)
DVD SuperMulti drive (+/-R Double Layer)

The problem is i really want 100 GB 7200rpm hardrive for a more future prof laptop. But the price seems unreasonable ($300), which is $100 than most competitors. So i was thinking of getting something like this:
http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=10598527/zip_code=44149/ for $174.99, which is quite a lot less.
I am scared of ofcourse doing something terribly wrong, the only mod i have ever done to a laptop is add RAM. Can I do this? Also will this void my warranty?

Well if you want future proof then wait untill you HAVE to upgrade your HD. That would be the economical thing to do. You will save tons of money. The 7200 will go down in price.

It would be fairly easy, although 7200RPM drives still command a higher price than 5400RPMs - the 7200RPM drives offer better speed and performance (about a 10-20% increase) for HD intensive tasks, but they also eat away at battery life (you'll shave off about 20-35 minutes of battery life).

If you want to upgrade, look for SATA HDs not ATA-6, since the P100 has a SATA HD interface.

THis is what it says if you want to update to HD: 100GB HDD (7200rpm, Serial-ATA) [add $220.00]
So is the one i chose up there fit the standard? ALso can somone tell if it nullifies my warrant if i put in a new HD?

Also i am thinking about going with 1024 RAM 667MHZ and just buying the other stick of ram and saving around $90. Just so i don't have to start new topic can somone make sure this will work properly:

Installation is easy. Transferring your data and OS is more challenging. You may need to back up your data and use your restore disk.
