How to install Windows XP on a X205-S7483 FULL GUIDE(Without Floppy)

After recent hours spent searching, I've been able to piece together a full tutorial on how to UPGRADE my Toshiba Satalite X205-S7483 laptop from Windows Vista to Windows XP. It's easier then you might think(atleast once you get all the information you need!).

Programs needed:

Lets get started

The very first thing you need to go is go to http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp and download all o the drivers for the Toshiba x200 with the OS filter as XP.(The x200 drivers work the same for the x205 model). Then burn them to a CD.

Now for SlipStreaming the Sata drivers into your XP so that XP will recognize our hard drive.

First off go to http://downloadcenter.intel.com/det...&osfullname=windows* xp professional&lang=eng and download f6flpy32.zip.

Extract the .exe file to a temp file(I made a new folder on my desktop). Don't bother clicking the exe, it'll just ask you to point it to the Floppy drive. Instead open up WinImage(The trial will be pleanty of time), and find the f6flpy32.exe file and open it. Then extract all files from within to anywhere you want(Again I kept them in the same folder I extracted the exe to).

Ok now, extract everything from you Windows XP cd to your hard drive(once again the desktop was easiest).

**NOTE** Must have Windows XP SP2 or SP3 for this to work. Sp1 will not work due to pci.sys error that does not recognize New hard drives.

Now open up nlite and browse to where you extracted your XP cd.



Click Next, which takes you Available Presets, just click next again.

In the next window Select "Drivers" and "Bootable ISO"



And then click next. The next window will be where we insert our Sata Driver.

Click on " Insert" in he lower right corner of the window and click on " Single Driver" Then navigate to where you extracted the files from f6flpy32.zip earlier in the tutorial.

click on " iastor.inf" and then hit open. This will bring up another window. In this window select:

Intel(R) 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH8M-E/M)



And hit " OK". Once again hit next which will take you to the process screen. Simply hit yes and it will begin to intergrade the SATA driver into the XP files.

Once that has finished hit next, which will take you to the burn window. Here you can either create an ISO or you can do a direct burn to CD/DVD.(I suggest Direct Burn as it will be a replacement for your Windows XP cd).



From there burn your CD, restart your PC hitting F12 to go to the boot selection screen. Then scroll down CD/DVD and hit enter!

From there install Windows XP and once installed pop in your handy dandy driver CD you made and load up all of your drivers. The only driver that will be missing is the video card. But that is a whole other tutorial! I will most likely post how to do that at a later time.

Also I suggest creating a backup before doing ANY reformats. You nevr know when something might go wrong.




EDIT: AND NOW FOR THE VIDEO CARD DRIVER!

This was very difficult for me to understand, so it took me a little while to figure a way to explain it where everyone could understand!

OK first of all let me give a thanks to those at laptopvideo2go.com. They are very hard working. And because of them...it's possible for those of us who don't like Vista, to put XP on their computer with no known video drivers put out by the OEM.

This is going to seem complicated but in reality, it's really quite simple!


First, go to http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showforum=66 and click on the most recent release series.(In the current case it's 17x.xx but obviously will change over time.)

Then within that section again choose the most recent release.(Currently 174 release drivers.)

Then within that you'll see many many many different driver threads. Choose the most recent, making sure you watch for your OS as well as whether or not its 32bit or 64bit.(This is important) Also make sure it has what type of card. (In the case of the X205-S7483 it's nVidia)

For me it was called " v174.74 XP 32bit | NVIDIA" found at http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=18050

First thing to do is read through the post and find the list of Supported GPUs making sure you find your video card listed(In this case the 8700M GT)

Download the driver, as well as the "Modded INF". (They will be two seperate files)

Then run the .exe extracting the contents into a folder, make sure you know where you extract to!

After that take the modded inf file you've downloaded and put it into the extracted folder. (If you are not asked to replace the original inf file, you've done something wrong).

once you've replaced the inf file, simply run the setup.exe and you should be on your way to having a graphics driver installed!

Just installed XP using your guide. Thanks alot, that's a really helpfull post. Even though I have a A200-1J0 I just installed my set of drivers and it works like a charm.

I was thinking on performing excorcism on Vista already....

Also i found that my friend who was running sp3 had a problem getting some of the drivers to work correctly. But when I tried I had no problems. So for now, until I can get to the bottom of it... service pack 3 is hit or miss.

Hey there.

I've ran into a few problems. A few different error messages.

1/5 of the time it will decide to load up the storage controller drives AND continue to the installation area of the setup. Most of the time it freezes after everything loads.

I'm going to try a few things later today.

Also, could you tell me which version of Windows XP SP2 you're using for the installation?

Hmm thats interesting. When I did it, I used XP pro sp2.

The only problems I had during any of it was when I had changed the boot sequence in bios.

Perhaps post what the errors where that you are getting?

As an alternative to specific driver sets you can look at this site:

They have bundled drivers for all machines -- I download the driver packs and unzip them to a folder called BTS Drivers

Then I use nlite and load ALL the drivers and make a bootable ISO disk for a DVD

I have an XP SP2 fully slipstreamed as of March to use as my source folder for nlite.

I boot that DVD and install XP SP2 with all the drivers. I can install on any machine and usually get 98% of the correct drivers on the first try - plus the DVD gives me that extra edge to carry around all the drivers. If you don't have a bootable DVD reader, then you'll have to opt for a CD install with fewer packs (leave out Graphics)

If you have any problems it usually occurs on the original install where you may not have the correct SATA drivers for the install -- use this forum to hunt down the correct drivers and drop them in your BTS driver folder with a folder name like \Sata driver and rebuild your install DVD.

Mule
