not to make my post totaly boring here are some pictures. I discovered its not really true SLI. Its pretty much like a 7950 gx2. It has a master card and a slave card i think they sit on X8 bus with each other then plugs into board as a X16 slot. this is the top card

What resolution is that 9300 score at?
1280x1024 or 1280x854? -
Yeah, curious as well what res that's at.... And that's running the X7800 at stock speed right, weren't ever able to get it to overclock? Any other tweaks ya got worked out?

May I ask what you did to boost that 3D Mark06 massively? I'm pretty new here because I am waiting for my Toshiba X205-SLI-1 to ship in...
I'm also clueless because this will be my first notebook/laptop that I had ever gotten. The rest of the PCs I've ever own were DELL's. I don't know how good Toshiba is, but after seeing the 3D MARK06 score of your, that convinced me that this laptop will be good despite the fact that recently the X205-SLI-3 review had came out which is similar to SLI-1 but a bit more, had a so-so gaming thing where some Direct X 10 Games ran laggish. Right now I am preparing the 169.12 driver forceware from Nvidia with the INF. file that Bill (Moderator) had provided us since the LaptopVideo2Go server went gone. Do you think that I should update my Nvidia driver to 169.12 with the custom INF. file? Thanks in advance....... -
LHLXD - Yes it's a good idea to update the drivers to either 169.09 or 169.12.

jesse6749 - Thank you very much for the reply. I finally got my Toshiba Satellite X205-SLI-1!!! The first thought about this is, jeez, this is so big and Heavy. Well I followed what you had said and updated it to 16.12 Driver. I notice that it didn't make that much of a difference. When I try to format my hard drive, it said that i couldn't, so I guess that I have to take useless program one at a time. Do you think that there is another method of making an overclock like that from Chosin or similar on my Laptop? I dont want to change parts because I just got this and am new to this.If there is a way to overclock it, what is it and will i be harmful if I have done this? Will it be a painful process? Sorry for asking to much questions. I'm just happy that I finally got it shipped in today. One more last question. Do you think that the Microsoft Office XP Professional 2004 Edition be able to be installed onto My laptop, or do I have to buy the 2007 version? Thank you for your time for reading this, and I appreciate it if someone would like to help me out.

Yeah, to format you have to do a clean reinstall using a Vista disc, which unforutnaly aren't provided with most systems anymore.... Search the site though if you are interested though, and there are quite a few guides on how to do it.... You can actually do it with a Vista Anytime upgrade CD, then just use your Key on the bottom sticker under the laptop, and be good to go.... isn't hard, but does require reinstalling the drivers and then your programs.... if you enjoy playing with this stuff, that would be what I'd recommend, as you'll end up with a much cleaner and quicker install of Vista.
As for overclocking, google a program called Rivatuner, version 2.06 is the latest I believe, and that'll let you overclock the GPU's... not something you have to do, but when we are talking about overclocking these, that's usually what we're talking about, the video chips, as there's not an easy or even possible to my knowledge yet way of overclocking the main CPU... the bios locks it down. Chosin is using a X7800 cpu, which he upgraded.
So, enjoy you're laptop, we're glad to help! -
be77solo - Thank you for your help. If I were to overclock the GPU with the software that you had suggested me to use, does that do any affect on my battery life and the temperature of the system? If I were to overclock with Rivatuner, does that mean that I need to have 4GB of DDR2 RAM to make it run well? After all I am mostly using this for programs and applications, little on games. I just played Need For Speed Prostreet on medium settings without SLI on the Nvidia for at least an hour and the 10 percent warning showed up. That surprised me because according to the review of the similar Laptop, the Satellite X205, it said that it lasts 2.41 hours. sorry to ask so many questions....I am a man who is curious in many things.....
-
LHLXD - Even with sli disabled it is very hard to impossible to get 2.4 hours of battery life on a laptop like this one especially while playing games. I just don't see how that would be possible.
-
i don't know about 2.4 hours but i do know that if you lower the screen brightness alot that you will significantly increase the battery life usage of this laptop.
-
-
That is true. I thought that this may be inpossible for such a gaming laptop, providing such good battery life. according to this link:
http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3856
It says that it "I tested the battery life with Vista’s power settings set to “Power Saver” with the display at 3/7 brightness and while surfing the Internet the entire time. The X205-S9349 held out for a rather amazing two hours and forty-two minutes before giving the ten percent warning."
I know he said with surfing on the internet, but I had tried that before and still.....pretty weird. How persuasive people are and yet when you look and test it with your own eyes, you get different opinions....hmmm...but needless to say, I think this laptop is going to be good for my college...... -
If you aren't much into a lot of gaming then I wouldn't worry about overclocking the gpu's.... it will lower your battery life a bit if you were gaming on battery, run hotter, and unless you're really watching the frame rate, you won't notice much difference.
As for upgrading to 4GB, there's not much point either if you aren't into max performance in games, which it sounds like you aren't, so you should be good to go! -
That is the single GPU version though, and the SLI has two of those graphics chips, and even with SLI disabled, the card is still drawing power. GREAT for gaming, but not the ideal solution for long term battery life. Basicly, you aren't gonna do a whole lot of 3D gaming on battery, normal windows stuff will do better, but still not as well as the single gpu version
-
you are quite true about the gaming part but it's just that I haven't played games in a long time and I would love to experience it now like the game of the month, Call Of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare, Crysis, Unreal Tournament 3, Halo 2, etc. The reason why is because I've been having a 1995 and a 2000 computer in my hands and it couldn't handle the games I wanted to play. Sure I do want to play it during breaks but on weekdays, I just use it as regular use.
-
As long as you aren't expecting to play Crysis on battery, you should be fine... it runs the newest games very well, that's why I love it, but it does suck some battery power to do it.... So, for gaming just plan to leave it plugged in, and for regular typing or surfing, solitaire, etc, it'll do much better than running an actual game on battery. Probably won't ever get more than 2 hours though, but somewhere between one and half or a bit more is doable
-
Of course, another option is carryin an extra battery if you really need more life, as it does snap in and remove very easily
-
Lol very funny....I could buy an extra battery for it, but the problem is, would parents even be convinced to let you get a 140-150 dollar backup battery pack? I highly doubt that they would let me get it. Thank you very much everyone for the information that you provided me. Ill try the Rivatune thing and the 3D Mark06 to see what exactly is my score. I just want to get as high enough to at least play games that are smooth and capable of running DirectX 10 games thats all.
-
I get my scores from overclocking the piss out of my video cards, and X7800 which has unlocked multipier. I think with this proc you will get better battery life because in power saver mode it drops it to a X6 makes it run slow.with the t7250 it drops it to X8. But when i run my benchmarks. I use a progrem called rightmark cpu. I disable the sleep states which makes both cores stay at X13 or 2.6 ghz. Then I use rivatuner to overclock my videocard.
I got it 9300 in 3dmark06 x205-sli1
