Up to you. Satellites have a varying degree of quality. They have their "super" cheap Satellite, their more "mainstream" satellites, and expensive "satellites" [Satellites overall being their main consumer lineup; there are better Toshibas available: portege, tecra, etc..]

The saying applies, you get what you pay for. More main-stream Toshibas are good. Cheaper Toshibas still lack the same quality (imo); as this applies to ALL manufacturers.

The m640 looks like a mainstream Satellite. I would expect good quality.
You can also purchase the extended warranty plans directly from Toshiba. You can buy your Satellite from anywhere and have up to 30 days to purchase the extended plans.

It's fairly inexpensive. You can get a second yr for as little as $69.

    Good luck

AFAIK, Toshiba, Sony & Asus have been said to produce the most reliable notebooks. This doesn't mean they haven't lemons, just less likely. I have a Toshiba Satellite A60 which was a budget model and purchased in 2004/12. Some parts have been upgraded over the years and still using it everyday.. From what I can see by disassembling and repairing different notebooks over the years, Toshiba parts are generally better design, made and assembled. Every model is different though and some had less luck with theirs. It's a draw of luck I guess. My advice is to test and use it hard within the exchange period. Repair only as the last resort.

In my opinion, Toshiba laptop is quite good. I use satelite toshiba laptop for 5 years. Nowadays, notebook companies are almost the same. Many Notebook companies are trying to attract customers by designs, promotions, and services. Now It's up to what you want ; Band, Design, promotion,or services. I strongly believe that you can find a good one. Good luck

Ya, I just bought it on Friday from Costco. I receive it on Tuesday and my review will probably be on the site by the weekend if everything is ok with it.
I'll give it 2 weeks, then I'm going to buy the extended 3 yr On Site warranty (has to be purchased within 30 days of buying laptop).

Alienware is a good comp, but I love my 18.4" screen !!! [It's so much larger than a 17.3"]. I say buy what you want, don't settle. It'll be April next week. I think you said the Qosmios hit your market in May. Almost there :D

it will hit market by end of april or earlier in may with stupidprices. its always better to wait for the prices to settle down after a month or two. i will buy it by end of june. well i m happy for u that u have finally got ur laptop. qosmio by all means is an ideal laptop...no doubt about it.
