After about a year of researching and following different laptops, I settled on the Asus V6J. Unfortunately, the person who is going to pay for my laptop (for college) is my dad who is... let's say practical when it comes to purchases. Therefore, the $1799 pricetag is a little much for him and he wants me to look in to another notebook.
I am currently considering the Toshiba Satellite M100, but I need a lot of convincing to become a Toshiba fan. So, let the games begin.

Just got the M100 a few days ago. I think it's a great laptop so far. Here is my config:
2.0 core duo
1 gig ram
Ati x1400 Graphics
100 gb hd
Harman Kardon Speakers
True Brite Display
DVD Super Multi drive
Intel Pro Wireless
Win XP ro
MS Office Small Bus. ed.
3 yr extended warranty
The laptop looks great and is solidly built.
First one arrived damaged. One call to Toshiba, one ring, new laptop... The few times I've called Toshiba I got a friendly, helpful, rep on the phone within one or two rings. I drove my self nuts researching every little detail of every computer on the market. Finally decided that the m100 was for me. It's my first Toshiba and I got to tell you that I'm fairly impressed. For the money I don't think you can beat it. Just my opinion though.
There are two particularly good reviews of the m100 on this site.

Well, you do get equal power to the V6J for less money and also in a smaller package (less bulky). If you're heading off to college, I think that 14" notebooks hit the sweet spot in terms of size and portability, because they're not too bulky and are easy enough to carry around.
I need some convincing
