Is it still necessary to upgrade my RAM from 256 to a gig? New batteries? And does it come with a revocery disc? Is it worth playing any online games with my laptop [something like Battlefield 2]? I would like to get the most out of my first laptop, but then again I want to make it last for years. I'm basically using it for college also. Thanks!

For that price, and if you're sticking with Toshiba, I'll go with that P100 series with a dedicated GPU and bettery battery life.

256MB DDR is simply not enough. Currently, 512MB is confortable for surfing, word processing etc. A gig is highly receommended for anything else.

Yes 512 is the minimum for XP. Probably 1GB for Vista.
