I took it apart a third time and wanted to confirm something, along with replacing the TIM with some IC7 that I came into contact with. (Friend gave it to me!)
Looking at the GPU, I've come to the realization that there's a full on GPU connected to the motherboard, rather than being soldered onto it as was previously thought.![]()
This sparked an idea... however impractical...![]()
Could you replace it with another 460M if it had the same interface and design, or are these GPUs configured for this motherboard? I've seen that before, where a motherboard knows a lone video card, not even the model, just that ONE GPU and it wouldn't boot with an identical card that worked. o.o
So, any thoughts on this one guys? If I can get my hands on another 460M like mine, one that perhaps overclocks better, could I go with that just as a test?![]()

That would be awesome! The GPU is socketed!?!
Well I guess the question would be will the BIOS support it and how much for a new 460...480? -
Toshiba doesn't use MXM socket standards; so it may be possible to "upgrade" to a GPU that is used by a similar Toshiba model [cannot use GPU from other manufacturers]. However, for the x505 Qosmio, the top GPU is the GTX 460m; so not much room to upgrade unless you can use a x775 GPU.
However, it's good to know the GPU is socketed. -

Can you take a photo next time?
Would be interesting to see what the socket looks like. -
Yes, if you're that comfortable and experienced with opening up the Qosmio, some photos would be really nice.

Is the slot similar to a DIMM slot for ram or is it a long rectangle shape connector plug, soldered onto the top or bottom of the motherboard?
-
Probably means there are only a handful of those GPUs...Was just a thought.
I'm legitimately surprised about my Qosmio
