Hi!
I just received an IBM Thinkpad T42p last week. Upon reception and opening the box, I did start the notebook properly. The installation of the 1Gb upgrade memory also was successful.
However, the notebook refuses to start the second day. I can notice that the power is available through the status light. But there is no start-up information, not even the possibility to access the BIOS information. It seems there is lack of start-up memory or power failure to supply the hard disk or start-up system. I cannot clearly diagnose the problem since there is no faulty message or beep to indicate the type of problem. The screen remain blank when started.
If any one can assist, please let me know how to deal with the problem.
Note:
IBM Thninkpad specification: Pentium M 765 1Gb DDR upgraded to 2 Gb
Type: 2373-Q1G
Model S/N: 99-zp3t9
P/S: UC2Q1ZA

Jean-Marie,
You've accidently posted this in the Toshiba section. This should be in the IBM Forum.
But as a quick suggestion, since you just upgraded he memory and now it doesn't work, it might be your memory causing the problem. Pull out the installed module and see what happens.
Please continue post in the IBM section.
Thanks,

Hi !
Sorry for the mix-up. The problem has been identified as the failure of the motherboard.
