so with the new toshiba gaming laptop coming out, i'm interested to know if the 9800M setup can be somehow modified to make fit the x205. i think they are the same size motherboard and if they are SLi, Toshiba might just have re-used their proprietary SLi implementation. If so, we may be doing power supply and cooling mods to upgrade. i also think that if it's possible, our laptops become much more valuable on the market as a fully capable, penryn based gaming machine with performance to match the best out there.

your thoughts? anyone with experience modifying graphics hardware or who's got a good idea of how the x205 SLi implementation works? some kind of data sheet on the card design would be sick

Wow if it were possible, I think this would be to technical for an average user like me. Although I would probably try in the future after I get this paid off and want to get experience overhauling a gaming notebook. So yeah keep this going for documentation.

Hmm... Doubt you could get it to work. Different sizes of GPU, different requirements (both energy and heat), getting SLI set up...

"on the market"? nobody's gonna buy a machine you've just gutted and then shoehorned a GPU that isnt rated for the machine into it...

do you know any of this for certain? are there documents you can point me to that state these things? because if you'll read my original post, you'll see that's what I'm looking for.

i'm interested in the possibility of fitting the graphics solution for the x305? into the x205. i know for a fact our video card assemblies are removable because i've read about some who have taken the x205 apart that removed it. that's a huge start, plus the fact that the bus interface is identical and the only thing that might be in the way is physically connecting the card to the motherboard. who knows? i certainly don't think you do.

and i was referring to the fact that one could buy an x205 and replace ALL the meaningful components if this was possible. CPU, GPU, RAM, HDD... and it would give owners the option to extend the life of their unit through upgrading it instead of being forced to replace it.

so now that the X305 is getting closer to release we're getting more info on the video cards that are going to be used. so far the info i've gathered is that there will be an option of a 9800m GT 512mb GDDR3 card that will compete with the 8800M GTX and a 9800m GTX 1GB that is class leading.

i'm also fairly certain the cards are MXMIII spec with upwards of 30W power consumption. i have no idea what the specs of the x205 sli are. getting some info on that could easily end this discussion, or make it much more interesting.

anyone have any new thoughts on this? there have to be some people out there that this idea appeals to besides me...

Think I'll follow this thread.............I have been thinking about trying to replace the single 8700M in my machine with the 8600 SLI card out of one of the SLI machines but I haven't been able to locate a supplier that sells the card.

Me too, I'm also have a X205 with a 8700M, I've just upgraded it to 4GB ram and replace one of the HDD(5400 120Gb) for a 200 Gb 7200 RPM one. Next step will be a T9300 CPU (I read about it on this forum, thanks). And I still hope it might be upgradeable with a faster GPU.

The Toshiba 8600 SLi and 8700 should be interchangeable.
