I recently bought a factory sealed non refurb Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5895 Laptop off of eBay for $550 shipped and on top of that I even used the MS Live search Cashback thing so all in all I paid about $420 for it. That aside, I despise Vista with a passion so what I would like to do is format the HDD and install my copy of XP Home. Now while thats not a problem because I've done it before with other computers the problem is with the drivers. Now I've already wiped out Vista and installed XP Home and everything seems to be running fine I just need to find drivers for everything so I can use the Wi-FI / LAN etc. Now Toshiba's website has a few drivers listed as XP compatible for this laptop but not everything, seems the ones that they have listed are just for minor stuff no one cares about. It seems that the drivers that are missing for a successful XP instal are ALL the important ones like the ethernet controller, video, Wi-Fi etc etc etc.

Anyway, if you have this laptop successfully running XP in all it's glory please reply as I need help getting all the drivers... Ty. Even if you dont have this laptop but can provide me with all or even some of the XP drivers for it that I would be eternally grateful.

The one driver I do have that I know for a fact works is the Realtek HD Audio Codecs.

HI, don't worry, it's not a big deal just put attention
you must download this software first
EVEREST, the free edition is enough
    www.lavalys.com
then select in the right list hardware devices and windows devices in the right window, so you will be able to know what's the hardware name wich has no drivers, this will let you google it and find the drivers, or you can also use the drivertoolkit software, also very helpful

haha, forgive me, i'm sleeping, you must choose from the left list the hardware devices option and then windows devices on the right side, keep in touch to know how is it going

I actually do have a spare USB 256mb flash drive I can use so ya that will work. I'll see what I can maybe dig up on my own which as of now hasnt been very much and then ask for help if I need it which I probably will / kinda do now hence the post heh. I guess the main good news as of now is that XP Home installs fine. I read another post here where one guy couldnt get even half way with the install / format.

Since I cant post URL's / Pic's til 15 posts I gotta do it like this... anyway heres a snap I took before I wiped out Vista. I expanded what I felt were the more relevant items to worry about first. Anyway, I'll try to find em on my own but figured I'd post this now since I will probably end up needing help. I'm good with computers but as sad as it sounds I suck when it comes to downoading / finding drivers for a system with a "not intended" OS installed.

Ok, I'm getting ready to crash for real this time lol but I wanted to ask something. Given the laptop in question would I be better off installing my 64bit copy of XP Pro since the system has 3GB of memory installed which is expandable to 4GB ?

Also, are those two links your provided for the Video & Ethernet x64 compatable ?

I think I have everything working right, but theres a few small things.

    1. The MIC doesnt seem to work, theres not even an option to mute, enable it anywhere on the sound stuff.

    2. The following two things are showing up in the device manager with the yellow !

Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus & SM Bus Controller

I cant use Skype or Vent til I figure out the MIC thing... normally when you click the volume control its there or if not its under properties and just needs to be "checked" to be activated but it's no where to be found ;-(

this should have the x64 (64-bit) drivers.
when you click download on this site it will take some time to start downloading so wait! even though it seems nothing is happenning.

    AR5007EG for L305D-s5895

I am thinking it is the same for L305D-S5893

    or try this Click here

hey guys, I'm mid installation on mine as we speak... you've been a godsend, I was able to get my wireless working, and for the most part everything's going well, I'm trying to work out how to get the FN keys to work, any ideas?

Edit: also my video isn't working either, downloaded the xp version from ati.com with no luck on the install, it interrupts mid install and says it cannot be installed on this system and to consult the manufacturer, tried the vista drivers on it to boot

ok, I got the majority of the FN keys to work with the Toshiba utility pack for this model on toshiba's support pages, unfortunately the two functions I was MOST concerned about, the dim and brighten monitor functions, are the ONLY ones that don't work... any ideas on solution? I'm going to continue doing some research myself. This utility pack is for vista, so maybe I just need to try to find something else.

I've done some more research, and here's what I've come up with regarding the Fn keys: you need toshiba's hot key utility, which requires a special set of drivers called toshiba common modules, on the toshiba us site this is called the added value pack or the value upgrade pack I can't quite recall, which is the file that I downloaded that gave me partial functionality of the fn keys. Unfortunately toshiba america doesn't offer a fully compatible common module software pack for our model.

SOLUTION: after trial and error I found a similar model on the toshiba canada site called the L300D MH1 that offers the common module software and the hotkey utility you will need to return full functionality to your laptop. this was the last piece of the puzzle for me! all is well!

there is a guy on ebay selling a downgrade kit for this exact model claiming it has all the drivers you need... I thought about it, but after just a day's perusing I was able to find solutions to every problem I encountered! I now have complete set of working drivers for this downgrade from Vista to XP pro using this thread and a little trial and error, now lets look at a complete breakdown of everything we need.

Audio and Modem drivers: Drivers for windows vista worked for this, you can get these at the toshiba america support site, the modem in this model is a software modem, you will need to know that when selecting the driver, and its the realtek HD audio device. (I just discovered that you can get them from the toshiba canada site listed below)

Video Drivers can be found here: http://www.omegadrivers.net/ati_winxp.php just select the mirror you want to use and you're good to go. NOTE: you may be able to get these drivers from the toshiba canada site using the model mentioned, but I haven't tried as omegadrivers are a lot more "tweakable" than the standard ati drivers from toshiba were.

Wireless Drivers: These can be found by simply scrolling up, just in case I'll attach them again.

Toshiba Common Modules and HotKey Utility: you WILL need the modules to install many toshiba drivers, and these must be installed first, else the requiring drivers will not complete an installation. The Hotkeys are the fn keys that allow you to dim your monitor for power saving, etc to find these you need to go to here http://support.toshiba.ca/support/Download/ln_byModel.asp and select the model L300D part number PSLC0C MH108C and click go. This will pull up the list of drivers, from there choose the toshiba common modules file for xp, and the hotkey utility for xp. Remember to install the hotkey utility AFTER you install the common modules.

I think that does it, and remember, you may be able to save some headache and try the other drivers from the toshiba canada model to see if they work. I didn't attempt them as I had already found the solutions I listed in this explanation.

Thanks a lot guys for pointing me in the right direction here, and I'm glad I could complete the necessary steps! I hope that this helps others out as much as it did me!
