    Hey,
I have a Toshiba A100-JH2 and Ive noticed that my chip temperature is reporting incorrectly. I was wondering if anyone else has the same problem. I have installed both Notebook Hardware Control 1.1 beta3, and SpeedFan, both giving the same results. Originally when I installed them, I was getting temperature readings of about 24(35) celcuis, which seems normal. (the number in brackets is the chassis temp). Now, I am getting readings of about 4 degrees celcius, and chassis at 35 degrees. It is obvious to me that the chip cannot be 4 degrees, since I do not use it in a refridgerator, and the room temperature is at least 20.
I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience, and perhaps any suggestions.

I've been wondering how I could tell my chip temp, I installed Everest but it only seems to find a sensor for the hard drive temp. I have the M100 with Intel T2300 CPU. I didn't even see it in the bios.

You have to install a program such as: SpeedFan or NotebookHardwareControl. The BIOS does not report the temperature (hopefully a future update will).. I am currently running BIOS v4. (from Toshiba) I am very curious to see what other people's T2300 chips are reporting.

Thanks for the tip. Odd that the BIOS doesn't display CPU temp if there's a sensor for it in there. Also strange that something like Everest wouldn't pick it up. That's what the program is designed for (I thought). I'll check out some of those. I think I'm on BIOS 1.5 on my M100.

I guess there was nothing wrong with Everest afterall, NotebookHardwareControl doesn't display a CPU temp for my M100 either. :(

The HDD temp is 47C, is that normal or is it possible the software is picking up the CPU temp but reporting it as the HDD temp?

Mine M100 with ATI X1400 also doesn't show the temperature of CPU - except one application - it's called HWiNFO32 (find it with google) - but this soft is crappy as I cannot set the temperature to be shown in tray or something like that.

I've also checked other programs like NHC, Everest and SpeedFan and none of them shows the temperature of the CPU except this HWiNFO32 :(

Mine BIOS is 1.60 and the newest one is 1.70 that's for sure:
    http://tinyurl.com/m9ohu - link to "ASK IRIS on-line"
but the question is: IS THIS PAGE RELIABLE as I've found "new" BIOS at http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com for our M100 series and the release date is almost the same as this one at ASK IRIS but the number is different!

Wow, it really does detect the CPU sensor, thanks! It would be nice to have it in the tray but being able to read it at all is better than nothing. I have tried Everest and NotebookHardwareControl with no luck, maybe we can find something better. Did you try Sandra?

I don't really understand what you're saying but I updated my bios to 1.50 when I got it about 6 weeks ago. I just looked at the Toshiba support site and it lists this one:

I think it would be safe to install this since it's provided at Toshiba's official support site. I'll update it now.

I've just updated it in mine Toshiba. Everything finished successfully :) Nevertheless I can't see anything new... :(
CPU temperature still not present in popular software :(

Do you know what does this feature mean:
"Added a CMT CPU thermal fan trip point." ??

I updated too. I don't know what that means. Everest doesn't show anything but hdd still. I looked at the toshiba support forum and a lot of people have had this problem even last year but they never found a program that will read the cpu temp so I guess we're very lucky you found HWiNFO32!

That might be a good idea. Have you tried any more programs? Let me know if you do, HWiNFO32 is pretty crappy besides being able to read the cpu sensor.

no, any... now I'm looking for a solution how to undervolt / underclock the ATI X1400 card :] as it is changing its Core and memory frequencies on batteries so I'd like to be able to set it up also "on demand" while AC connected :D

the list of software I have already checked
    Everest Home Edition
    Everest Ultimate Edition 2006 :]
    SpeedFan
MobileMeter (biggest crap as for me)
    NHC
    HWiNFO32

    that's all :)

Thanks. I have nothing to add, I tried Everest and NHC. I'll try to find Sandra.

EDIT: Motherboard Monitor 5 is so old it doesn't support this laptop so that doesn't work.

I installed sandra on my desktop pc and it didn't seem to have a system tray feature so I didn't bother installing it on my laptop. There's an option in it for temperatures or something. Or probably it's under the motherboard area. I saw it.

Ya,so i tried HWinfo32, and it detects ONE of the temperature sensors, and it still reads 11 degrees celcius! (that cant be right).
If anyone else out there has a Toshiba A100-JH2 or any Core Duo T2300 chip, can they PLEASE tell me what temperatures they are reading. If this is a faulty sensor, then I will contact Toshba.

Mine is Core Duo T2300 - temperature @ CPU between 46-51C for "office use" (but only this crappy HWiNFO32 reads this!)

Both my CPU and HDD temps are around 40-50c, usually around 45. This is with regular use, nothing intensive. I have the M100 with Intel Duo T2300. The other various utilities all pick up the HDD sensor but like I said, only HWinfo32 finds the CPU.

try also mobilemeter. Sometimes MM reports correct temperatures whil SF does not or vice verse.

Everest Ultimate 2006 3.00.626 or newer (if exists) It shows CPU temperature in the tray! :)

I'm confirming that Everest Ultimate 2006 3.00.630 picks up both CPU core temps as well as the hdd temp on my M100. It's awesome to now have these display in the task tray but I have one issue with Everest: If you set it to load on windows startup and minimize to the tray, if you ever expand Everest from the task tray you can never get it to go back, it then stays as an open window on your task bar. This is really annoying, is there any way to shrink it back to the task tray?

    Thanks M4ciek

I think Everest is the only one that works with the newer Core Duos. Nice find M4ciek!

Thanks a lot, I will try it. So far it's all working well, my CPU temps stay in the rage of 47-49C and my HDD is usually a few degrees higher.

the same for me :) my record in 30 degrees of Celcius of air in my room - during converting a DVD to a Div-x file - I've "managed" to get the temperature od 70 ;) (disk was then 55) but the efficiency of the cooling system is great. 1-2 minutes after this process the temperature of CPU dropped to 50-51

Has anyone found any alternatives to Everest that work on Toshibas? Everest seems like overkill for just temp monitoring.

Has anyone tried creating an ACPI class for NHC? If so, did that work?

    Thanks

NHC is actually what I'd like to use, but it says "ACPI system not configured" or something like that and doesn't display CPU temp. It might be possible to remedy that by creating an ACPI class as described on the NHC website, but that is non-trivial. If anyone else has succeeded in that effort, I'd be curious to hear about it.
