I recommend going to the Toshiba Support Site and downloading their Win 7 upgrade guide to see what problems you might run into as well as downloading either the Toshiba Software Installer (for systems made in 2007 or 2008) or Toshiba Upgrade Assistant for systems made in 2009 (you can tell when it was manufactured by the second digit of the serial number). That tends to make the upgrade easier.

    Thanks for the info.

I've installed Win7 64bit and am testing on a spare drive before I wipe Vista from and install on the notebook's SDD.

Not sure about using the Toshiba software assistant though. It installed an intel chipset driver and as far as I know there's only a NVIDA chipset in this laptop. Also I think that the audio is still better in Vista, so far. I haven't tested the hybrid/SLI drivers yet.

Toshiba's 64bit Win 7 drivers, especially for NVidia and ATI display drivers and some of the audio drivers haven't gotten much better over the past few months from what I have seen.

Several models with high end audio don't work well at all under Windows 7 no matter what you do. There are thread after thread about these problem on the Toshiba Support Forums.

would the sound drivers be a problem with having too much bass? i find that a problem now, but didn't really think of it as a problem with windows 7.

From what I remember it was just the opposite. They complained of low overall sound levels. sound too tinny, and not all speakers working on some Qosmios. The poor driver support under Win 7 turned high end laptops into low end models.

I use external speakers and they are very bassy. They were never like this before, and I also tried my 5.1 surround sound and the same thing.

I dont mind it, but i actually have to use bass reducer in itunes.
