Ok... I "think" I'm understanding a little better. So I only need to do
f6flpy32_85.zip file. Do I need to unzip them before using nLite?
Then I don't need any of these? (what about SP3?)
WXPOEM_EN (E) - IATA85ENU - infinst_autol - WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU - win2k_xp14363

Yes you will need to extract the zipped folder. At that point you can follow these instructions provided by Andy:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=3973780&postcount=25
The only variation from Andy's instructions is that you will also want to select "Service Pack" under the "Integrate" section in nLite.
It will prompt you for the SP3 file to integrate. Use the one I linked to, as that is SP3, the one you have is SP2.
In the folder in your screen shot, the only thing you will be using is the folder containing the Windows XP installation CD files. -
I appreciate all the help. -
.
Don't use the win2k_xp14363 file. That is an executable file that would be ignored by the CD. The XP installation files I was referring to are the ones contained in the folder that nLite creates after reading your XP installation CD. In your case that is likely the 'WXPOEM_EN (E)' folder. -
-
Yes, that is in only thing in that screen shot you will be using. Then additionally, the SP3 file I linked to and the unzipped f6flpy32_85.zip folder.
-
(should I get rid of that f6flpy32_85 zip folder once extracted?)
Now I have to wait almost 3 hours for the SP3 to download before trying nLite again... correct?
-
Personally I would keep all the files that were extracted in their own folder. I don't believe it should matter though. It shouldn't make a difference whether or not you delete the .zip file, since nLite will only put the pertinent file into the new XP cd, not the whole directory.
The SP3 file is huge. Definitely a pain to download.
You should be all set with what you have. Familiarize yourself with the nLite guides while you are downloading and everything should go fine. -
Download only the installer.
By the way, nice car man! My dream car. -
Oh... you mean my toy?
http://corvettec3.com/1977.htm -
When I got to this screen:
I got this error message:
Then at the end of this, when I tried to do the bootable ISO, I got that error message again and it shut down.
How fustrating... I lost 3 hours of work here. -
It didn't like the filename of something you were integrating. I'm thinking it has something to do with the incredible size of what you were integrating.
The size shouldn't be 40GB, as it is shown in that picture. It should still be under 700MB after slipstreaming SP3 and the SATA driver. You must have been adding more stuff to account for the extra space.
Use nLite to make a new folder containing the files from the XP cd. Then using that new folder, follow the directions exactly as they are given in the guides. -
There is something you're doing differently than the guide directs... That is the only reason why your XP CD could have grown by such amounts.
For learning, it would be best to track down what it is that you're doing which is causing that huge bump in file size. However, if you're getting frustrated with all this, you could just explicitly follow Andy's instructions for getting the SATA drive detected. Then install SP3 immediately after installing XP on the computer by using the 316MB file you downloaded. (You can install it like any other program by double-clicking.)
Still, it is imperative you start with a clean copy of your XP cd. The one you have been using won't work anymore due to whatever has been causing your issue.
Let nLite create that copy. Create an empty folder called, "xppro" on your desktop. When nLite loads and ask for the directory hosting the Windows installation files, select the CD drive with the Windows CD in it. It will prompt you to copy those files to your hard drive. Tell it to copy them into that folder you created on your desktop.
It is ok that you're using an XP computer. That won't affect the process. The problem is being caused by some variation from the process you should be doing.
You could install it with the drive connected to your current running computer, but that is more work than using nLite. If you follow the nLite directions explicitly you will be fine. -

It was a post made earlier in this thread by Andy, who was spot on with screen shots and all. -

What happens if you try loading drivers for Vista? -
First, try getting the driver from the Device Manufacturer's site.
You'll be able to get the XP-version of the chipset, graphics, audio, wifi drivers.
The rest can be installed using the Vista drivers, through the Have-Disk method via device manager. Vista and XP drivers work on each other, if the two OSs have the same BIT. -

I didn't think Vista would work and why I didn't try it earlier.
So, you are correct. Thanks.
All my drivers work now and XP Pro works flawlessly.
...and nLite is one nice program! -
