It should work. I couldn't find any definite proof, but I believe the r840 only has one design and shape [compatible motherboards should fit]; the only major difference I can think of is that some Tecras have a dedicated graphics card [AMD] or integrated graphics [Intel]. However, there are no guarantees that it will work

As for the Xtreme Sandy Bridge CPU, it may work, but I do not think the Tecra would be able to handle the power of the i7-2960xm. The 2960xm is a quad-core, high-power CPU [ 55W TDP]; the Tecras were only designed for dual-core, mid-powered CPUs [ 35W TDP]; thus the fan is designed to only handle dual-core CPUs.
    TDP is defined as:
Thermal design power - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Do not get the various i7's confused; the i7 in the Tecra 14R is a dual-core:
    i7-2620m: ARK | Intel® Core - i7-2620m
    i7-2960xm: ARK | Intel® Core - i7-2960xm

    Good luck

Also, check around for the current market value of your laptop too before you go purchasing mobos. Sometimes the mobos cost more than what you can purchase for your laptop used.
