I have a 2 year old Toshiba Satellite A65-S126, which came with 256mb ram.. I had bought a gig of ram later on, and was working for a few months that way..

then, one fine day, my video started going bad, and since I have shared video memory, I suspected corrupted ram.. this was verified by a memtest by ubuntu, which showed most of the intnernal ram to be corrupt..

after a few reboots, none of my OS were booting, nor were any of the "live" bootable OS-es.. I tried without the stick of gig, and still the same results..

Now my question is, since I cannot directly see or access the internal 256 mb ram, is there a way for me to either get the internal memory changed, or to disable it, either through software, or just by disconnecting it..

Any help would be appreciated.. toshiba tech support was useless, after an hour on phone explaining the problem, they asked me whether it was a harrdware or an software issue..

    Thanks

Isn't tech support wonderful? I am not super familar with this model, but usually when you can't find the other slot it is located under the keyboard. Probably have to pop the keyboard at a minimum off to get access to it. If you can get the service manual it should explain how to do it.

I'll try and do that, but do you think I can simply remove the ram, or will it be soldered or something?

Also, where do I get service manuals online, preferably a pdf or something

    Thanks a lot

Satellite A65 has an onboard memory, it’s soldered permanently to the mother board and you cannot replace it at home (at least I cannot :) ). So, if onboard memory is bad you have to replace the motherboard.

oh man.. thanks cj2600, I dont think its worth replacing the whole motherboard..

I don't suppose there is a way to easily ask the bios to ignore the internal ram, and offset the beginning of the memory block by 256mb..

Well, I think you could if you really wanted to, but it wouldn't be worth your time trying to mess with the BIOS.

I have this same problem with my 2 3y/o A65-S1062. Memtest showed the errors on the internal RAM. At one point the machine just shut down. Probably got tired of seeing all the errors.

The board on this one costs at least $350 and could go up to $500. Holy crapola! I am planning on taking this apart and desoldering the onboard RAM. I'm sure some electronics parts shop would have a replacement.

BTW, in my machine it constantly crashes with the blue screen memory dump error then restarts by itself.
