Hi, I am planning on buying a new, faster HDD for my Satellite M40 but I am a little confused whether the EIDE and ATA100 standards are the same. What do you think? Thanks.

EIDE is "Enhanced IDE" which is an extension to the original ATA technology. EIDE is obsolete now, so you don't really need to focus on these drives. ATA-100 or UDMA 100 is the evolved version of EIDE which is one of the current popular forms of PATA hard drives. So when buying PATA hard drives look for at least ATA100 or UDMA 100. You should be able to see the hard drive interface when buying such drives from a reputable retailer.
