Yes, It sure is. Upto an Quad core QX9300 i believe. (looking at the X305-Q708)

It will be a pain to actually do it though because you need to remove the motherboard!

Most CPUs nowadays are not soldered. Replacing the CPU will most likely have consequences for you warranty.

Not with this laptop unfortunately. The CPU is on a socket but only the memory, hardrives and battery are accessible from underneath, see these pics of the disassembly from another helpful user on this forum: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v720/christopherquinalty/Qosmio%20X305-Q701%20disassembly/

Yeah sometimes you get systems designed for user upgrades (Whitebook), or ease of assembly at the factory and thus end user (gateway) or sometimes the most obscure designs known to humans (Toshiba, HP, Sony).

Unfortunately the Qosimo series isn't very straight forward.

But yeah, if you disassemble it, the CPU is upgradable.

I was thinking the same thing since the 706 only has the p8400 maybe if I thought it necessary could upgrade to qx9300. Looks a lot more complicated than I might want to tackle. Might do it if I could find someone with expertise and works cheap though.

Upgrading the cpu to QX9300 may also include upgrading the heatsink fan. HP had heat issues with the first QX9300's issued , then halted production for a short time before resuming with a bigger HSF. Not sure if that would be an issue with the X305's though, the cases are much thicker allowing for inherently greater heat dissipation. I'm hoping some of the knowledgeable posters here will lead the way for upgrading to the QX9300.
