I just bought a M40-JM3 yesterday and I'm really impressed with it so far. Solid build quality, good screen (though just as bright as an XBrite screen set one notch down from the highest brightness setting) and fast graphics chip makes it a steal for $1899.99 Canadian. However, there seems to a minor problem with the speakers. Don't get me wrong, it sounds great at moderate volumes, but I'm getting static (like a few simultaneous clicking noises) sounds when everything goes from totally silent to high-pitched. It's barely noticeable, but it's definitely there when I pay particular attention to it. Anyone know what the problem is? Or is this pretty common with laptop speakers? Really need to know before it drives me nuts. :D

    Thanks!

Just figured out what it is. It's apparently some kind of power saving feature that disables the speakers when it's not in-use. Strange..

Anyway, if you guys want to get the most out of your speakers, I suggest you go to Control Panel -> SoundMax -> Power Management and set the powermode to "no power savings". It seems to have reduced a lot of static I was mentioning earlier on.

I was just about replying that I saw you answered your own question :) Personally, I don't get this static when listening through the speakers, but I do hear it when using headphones :)

Thanks! i heard that same clicking noise as well but thought it was normal. Setting the soundmax option to "no power savings" made a big difference in these speakers. Ive heard other laptop speakers and i must say the M40 has pretty good speakers, they are loud and clear.
