I love it so far. I got it from Amazon.

    I was expecting more bloatware.

Is the MS works/Office a trial?

Where is a good place to get 1680x945 wallpaper or can I get by with another size?

Any programs should I get that I don't already know about?

I do something more formal when I get it all done with updates and installs.

    First of all, you got a Q8 85. ;)

MS works sucks, get rid of it. Office is a trial, you'll have to get a key. If it's Office 2007, you should get Office 2010 instead.

For wallpapers, check this site: InterfaceLIFT: Wallpaper sorted by Date

I assume you know the basic programs (CCleaner, Firefox).

Hope you like it. I finally managed to see the 1680x945 screen yesterday, and it looks great.

Sorry about that. That wasn't the first time of that mishap. :p

What is Works? I'll probably just get Open Office.

I was wondering if there are any Win7 programs to get that make life better. I am already installing all the stuff I used with XP. Does Noscript not work on Win7?
What other drivers should I update? I got all the Win7 and GPU done.

I should, the thing is massive and gorgeous! Yeah, it's clear and colorful. I am sure not the best, but I couldn't tell any way. :p

Awesome! When can we go to your place and play with it? (I don't know if you know it, but there's an important tradition on this forum. If you post a thread to talk about your new laptop, you have to invite everybody who writes on that thread to go to your place and play with it.) So... when is a good time for you?

Enjoy it! That Qosmio looks great. Let us know when you start having back problems.

Congrats! I hope you bought it when it was still 999.00 though! But either way, enjoy it and use it well.

Andanzas, you bring about 5 large pies from a nice Italian restaurant, no crappy "non-NYC" pizza either! a4500435, you bring the chips and the booze, and I'll bring the women.

The Q885 is at 999.99 on NewEgg right now, FWIW.

Yeah same in Costco and a few other places. Part of me wants to jump on that, but I think I am going to wait and see what happens with the new 460m based units coming for the holidays.

I have the exact same feelings. I hope the new units are out soon though.

I am also hoping that Tpshiba doesn't start the higher end models out at the $1899.00 price point, either, because honestly once you get up to the 2K range you really have to start considering a Sager/Clevo not a Toshiba or Asus. At least that's my opinion.

I don't think they'll do that. Toshiba knows they'd get killed by Asus at that high-end.

BTW Chiro, I've seen the 1680x945 screen now...I liked it. So if you do give in to temptation, I think the Q885 and Q887 will be to your liking.

    Me, I'm still waiting. ;)

I would like to see a new Qosmio in the $1000-1200 pricerange, personally. I think that Toshiba has a lot more room to compete in that range, and there is more of a market, than in the higher ranges.

If not, I'll probably stick with the current models.

Yeah, but look at the present Q890, which released at $1899.00 and is still at that price even with the less expensive Asus models being arguably better machines. Don't you think that whatever the top end nex 500 series is (equivalent to the 890 only with the 460m instead of the 360m) it will sell for close to 2K?

No one is selling the Q890 at retail, at least no one who's serious about selling them. They're in the ~$1600 range now, which is still pretty expensive, but the price is probably because of the SSD drive.

If you don't need an SSD drive (and I have yet to understand their usefulness other than short boottimes), any of the models under $1500 will do.

Yeah; I'm looking at the lower tier machines myself, like whatever the Q885 replacement will be.

The problem is you have to remember that even the 885's started out as $1,200.00 machines. And the 890's may not be selling at top dollar right now, a4500435, but they spent almost 8 months hovering around 1.9k!

Oh, and the SSD is more than just good for fast boot times. People are also putting their few favorite games on the drives as well because they run faster. What is the next Qosmio equivalent to the Q890, ie. top of the line, going to be priced at and how long will it stay there?

Let me put it this way: If the G73JW's price is the same as the G73JH's on debut, the odds that the Qosmio's prices haven't risen either are pretty good.

I think you're confusing the Q890 with the older Q870 and Q880. The Q885-Q890s came out at the end of June. The Q885 dropped from $1200 to $1100 and $999 within 2 months. That's a pretty quick and nice price drop if you ask me.

Nah, I paid 1,050 at amazon. You can never win the price wars. Fifty bucks isn't gonna bust my chops.

    I am a real Party D*ck !

I am just waiting until I get some time logged in to computer first. I got GTA4 and Fallout 3 GOTY, plus WoW I've had around. So far every thing is looking great.
