After much research on this and other forums, just purchased the Satellite M55-S3512. Purchase at Best Buy on-line with in store pickup to save shipping charges - total 999.00 plus tax. The in-store price was 1099.00 on sale, so saved 100.00 by ordering on line, then picking up in store.
Intel Centrino Pentium M processor 750
120GB EIDE hard drive - 5400 rpm
1 GB Memory
Dual Layer DVD/CD-RW drive
14 in. TruBrite Screen
Weight - 5 lbs.
So far it is great - beautiful screen, good sound from the Harman Kardon speakers, easily connected to our home network, processes quickly. Has an Express Media player (buttons on the right side of the keyboard) for CDs and DVDs listening and viewing without powering up Windows. Will have to wait and see if the concerns I read about the keyboard and the build quality become reality, but so far it seems very sturdy. Despite these concerns, for my needs it seemed like a great price for this machine. Keeping my fingers crossed that the initial delight will continue down the road.

Nice pick and congrats on your new purchase! About the keyboard: this is Toshiba's main weak point - they don't have the best keyboards. However, I have noticed a pronounced improvement in Toshiba's keyboards in the last couple of years (barring the low-end notebooks) - they seemed to have reduced the amount of flex they used to have.

No keyboard problems here whatsoever, its rock solid baby. Only thing I'm worried about is the eventual wear of the keys from everyday use where the keys will become smooth and shiny, don't want that at all.
