I've been looking for a new laptop and I nearly have enough money to buy one now. My favourite computershop has the L500-128 on sale for 599 but another store has the L500-126 for around 750. The only difference between the two is the videocard. The 128 has got the ATI mobility HD4570 and the 126 has got the HD4650. Both with 512mb RAM.
I play the occasional game, Sims 3 (if it can handle it), city builder games and adventure games. Except for the Sims those aren't very demanding games though I would like a notebook with a videocard that will last me as long as possible
My question is if saving 150 extra for it is worth it or not?
Thanks.

I'm not sure that kind of jump in price is worth it. They both are dedicated gpu's....
I ordered L500D, should have it tomorrow. it's the 2.2ghz turion, 320gig hd, 3gig ram, intergrated ati 3100. I dont game on a computer. I like to game on a console....I'll use it for school programs, dvd, downloading stuff from my camera....if my 9 yr old toshiba does it now, i'm sure this one will have no prob....just wish the delivery from toshiba didnt take as long as it did...
I would get the first one.....save 150.00 -
I wanted the 128 in the first place but tonight started doubting my choice. The 128 used to be €650 but is now on sale nearly everywhere.
I play games mainly on my desktop PC but I regularly look after the houses and pets of friends and family while they're away. That's why I like my notebook to be able to play some games without any major problems. I also use my notebook for university/teaching stuff, watching dvd's and the occasional website building and messing in photoshop.
So unless the HD4650 is a lot better than the HD4570 I'd like to use the money I save for a good sleeve and a new external HD. But I don't know enough about videocard for notebooks to make that call on my own (yes I read the post on videocards and it made me doubt my choice of the 128). -
If the unit has 3-4gig of ram, then that should be ok for the types of games you play on it. BUT, if you feel better getting the other one, than do so, then you wont doubt after you get it. Feeling like you paid money for something you want is a good feeling.

There is a bit of a difference. take a look... -
I think I'm going for the 128. Not only because it's good enough for me but also because of the service of the store that sells the 126 which isn't very good apparently. I can order it online, of course, but I'd rather buy it locally because it's easier to go to a shop nearby when there is a problem than that I have to mail the thing.
Thanks for the link btw. From a Dutch forum I read that the results aren't that accurate, that person got a much higher score with the L500-128.
Tomorrow I'll call the store to order it so I can pick it up on Wednesday. -
Fantastic! Let me know how you do. I should have mine tomorrow...delivered from toshiba...when they send "free shipping", I think they use a camel. It was in stock when I ordered it...12 days ago!
I myself had trouble deciding between a dedicated graphics card or the integrated. I decided on intergrated. The Ati intergrated cardis better than the Intel one, I figured it would be plenty for me. I never play computer games. So i figured I'd save on battery and less heat....but you play a little bit, so I think you'll be happy. I'll let you know after I get it going!

Doubtful as I am I went to look at the L500-126 in the store. Unlike the 126 that are sold online this one also has a HD4570 only with 1gb RAM. Although I wouldn't be surprised if the information sheet is wrong. They now also offer extra warranty but it's €120 whilst the store which sells the L500-128 it only costs €60 and they insure the things.
I called to ask if the store in my city has them in stock and was told it would be a good idea to have one put aside because they were really popular. The lady I talked to told me that in the last hour she had 15 people calling to set aside this laptop.
I'm going to pick it up on Wednesday, then I have all day to uninstall the bloatware and install my own programs. Now all I need to do is clean my desk. -
I'm doing that now....making room for it....should be here today.

hi guys
didn't want to open a new topic on this lap, so i'm gonna ask you, since you are using it already
i'd like to know how good is the construction and finishing of this lappie, is the plastic too weak, and does the keyboard bend (i found this on some toshibas i had under my hands)?
also, how's the display quality, and overall - is it a firm laptop?
i'm about to buy this one for my girlfriend, and i will probably take one with the t6500 processor, 4500mhd graphics and 2 gigs of RAM - it should be enough for her - watching movies, surfing the net and doing some MSOffice..
(sry for my bad english)
tnx a lot
bye
