    Hey, I got a Toshiba Satellite A100-906
core2duo 1.8, 1GB Ram, Nvidia GeForce GO 7600, Windows Vista Ultimate, Almost 1 year old.

I've installed BIOSHOCK, a very GPU intensive game. I put down the details to LOW. Then I start to play the game, intros.. then 3mins after my laptop just "SHUTS DOWN". no power at all.

It happened to me twice while playing BIOSHOCK, and Onced while playing C&C3 Tiberium Wars.

I have played NFS Carbon, Battlefield, F.E.A.R, SplinterCell : DA, and other games, on my laptop w/o experiencing this.

My C&C3 is now stable, now more shut downs/crashes.

    I really don't know what's wrong.

Is it the RAM? Vista? HardDrive? Power Supply?Heat?

    Help PLs.

    Thanks.

Hmm..based on my past experiences with Toshiba it seems that they have a tendency to overheat when stressing the graphics card. Do you raise the back of the laptop up a bit to allow better air flow? If not, then I suggest you do. use a textbook or something.

I also suggest you should make sure there isnt any dust build up near you fans, is so, then use compressed air or something like that.

If its not a heat issue at all then Im not sure what the problem would be. In which case you should call up toshiba since you are still under the 1 year warantee.

I have a cooling pad, but still when playing BIOSHOCK it just shut downs.

And it took 5secs before I can turn it on again.

When a laptop overheats, does it shut down instantly?

When my previous Toshiba overheated it shut down instantly. I fixed this by cleaning the heatsink and fans, reapplying thermal paste, etc.

It's held shut by screws. And thus you need a screwdriver.

Just take a can of compressed air and spray the vents.

There must be a user servicing manual on the internet.

I don't recommend a vacumm as it creates a lot of static that could kill your lappytop.
