This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved.     Laptop Audio

    I'm trying to build up a picture of how common a particular audio effect is on recent notebooks that have HD audio systems, and am building up a small list, but I'm finding it difficult to get responses.

    If anyone here would like to join in the fun, they can contact me (I hope) via the email function here and I can either post them an audio file or refer to a site where it can be downloaded. The file size is about 10 megs, although as an email attachment it comes out a bit bigger.

    I'm posting this to a few lists in the hope of getting some feedback. I don't want moans about other features or the OS. Either Vista or XP or even Linux will do. The file is just 60 seconds of 1kHz audio, and I just want you to play it with Media Player on the internal soundcard first with the volume very low, and then with the volume high and report what you hear.

    I promise I'm not doing this to gather email addresses or for any other dubious purpose. It's just that there seems to be a fairly widespread common 'issue' with laptop audio.
