I have this 4 year old toshiba satellite L300D laptop that i had bought from Canada. Many a times i shuts it down after getting heated. And after it is shut off, i cannot restart it, the green light of laptop being ON comes on but nothing on screen, not even the initial screen where we have the opportunity to go to BiOS and all.
Bu say after an hour or so i try the laptop, it works.
But today morning when i tried to start the laptop it failed to start with same symptoms, green light but nothing on screen. No sound and nothing.
And it is not at all heated. In fact the temps here is less than 20 degrees celcius and i have not even touched the laptop in last 12 hours.

What might be the issue and how to troubleshoot ? Do the symptoms suggest that some big issue is lurking ?
For some reason i don't see repairs as VFM solution to this, please suggest.

Well, as for the overheating, sounds like you need to open it up and clean out the fans/vents of dust.
Although this is not the exact same laptop, this guide should be useful as it is a very similar model: Taking apart Toshiba Satellite L355D notebook. Step-by-step disassembly instructions.

Not sure about your new startup problems. Are you still not able to turn it on? Perhaps try removing the battery and unplugging from power, then hold down power button for 30 seconds, then reinsert battery and plug the power cord back in. See if it will boot up after this procedure.

It does boot fine 50% of the time. Just that the remaining 50% time, after i turn on the laptop, i get the green light indicating laptop started but nothing on screen, not even a glow indicating the screen is actually receiving a signal. I have not really kept the laptop ON for extended period after this initial blank screen but i will try doing it next time. I want to check whether i get the windows boot sound or not (with nothing on display).
I will try what you said.
