    Laptop microphone does not work when the power cable is unplugged...

    I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A120 which has just started playing up...

    I regularly record music from my DJ mixer into my laptop's mic input, recording into Adobe Audition.

    Because the power supply makes a hum I cannot record with the power lead plugged into it... So I always record with the power cable unplugged, running off battery.

    I've never had any problems before, yet what caused the problem I now have, was earlier the battery ran out while recording, putting the laptop into hibernation mode.

    Ever since, I cannot record with the power cable unplugged.. it only records with the cable plugged in - which isnt any good because of the hum.

    It is not a problem with Audition, because in Windows Vista Sound set up the problem is proven too. As soon as I unplug the power lead, the microphone disappears from view.

    I used to work in IT support so I'm not a technophobe - but I can't for the life of me work out why this would suddenly start happening, power is not linked to the mic input is it..!

    Do any of you lovely people have any ideas? I've checked Power options and device manager to see if theres any hardware issues, but there is not. I have also reinstalled my sound card drivers.
