Just bought a SK9 and I'm overall somewhat impressed. Build quality is subpar (worse than the likes of Acer... believe it or not) at best, but the $1499 pricetag and 7600 GPU makes it something that can be overlooked. One major problem though... the headphone jack. Plugging my pair of X-230 to the port outputs mediocre sound. Everything seems to be muffled, and on top of that, if that wasn't bad enough, I hear noticeable static whenever sound plays more than ~3 seconds. Does anyone know what's wrong here? I've just exchanged my HP 2020CA for this and I'm really starting to regret my decision. Help please?

i have an acer and love it. basicly flawless. lasted 1.3years already and looking to get another Acer.... it's just the video rending time on a cel m is a little slow for my liking otherwise it will keep up with my p4(2.8ghz) fairly well.
if you can not return it, call support if they say 'no' tose it in the garbage, my last computer was a toshiba and they are the reason that i got an acer in the first place. the best choice i ever made!!!!
toshiba support will likely not fix it because the computer still works. that's what they told me when by CD drive went... in warrenty i tossed it in the dumpster behind my house... 5 months old... purchase brand new...
for what it worth i would suggest getting a new computer(not a toshiba). because it will give you problems for as long as you are willing to put up with it.... other wise try toshiba support, that is about all you can do.
*good luck with the support, hope you don't get the guy from India(he is hard to understand)* -
first of all, don't like to yuio. "toss it in the garbage"? Gimme a break.
I have just gone through over a dozen Satellites and finally gave up and went with an HP dv5000 and don't regret my decision one bit...i'll never go back to Toshiba. Like you said, the built quality is CRAP, and the MatSHITa drives are complete garbage. Definitely exchange it if it's not too late, otherwise call support - they are actually decent. They will refer you to a service depot and you'll get it fixed. Out of all my Toshiba Satellites, I had one with a partially defective headphone jack...basically it had some kind of problem with an incorrectly bent piece of contact inside, because a pair of earbuds only worked with the plug held "up"...worked in all other satellites I had so I know it was the laptop.
I believe you when you say that the build quality is worse than Acer. I had 2 Acers and both had problems....one with the fan buzzing annoyingly. And the other with the paint coming off the touch pad buttons...and random shutdowns.
So far i love my new HP! Good luck! I've heard Tecras are good but no first hand experience.
Oh yeah, I thought my Toshiba screen was nice....man, the HP definitely has the edge...awesome. -
Just saw a few Dells on display at a local mall and the Inspiron 6400 looks great. Way better build+screen quality than my Toshiba. Text actually looks sharp on the Dell. Here's an idea. Why don't I just order a Core 2 Duo Dell I6400 and return my Toshiba when it arrives? A sound plan?

I'm getting the laptop mentioned on my sig TODAY, but you guys now have me freaked out!! Is it really that bad? I had an older Toshiba a while ago and was the only laptop that lasted for 2 years with me. I think there build quality is excellent, but now I'm having second thoughts. Should I cancel or go ahead with this buy? It's not cheap so please be precise and clear. I really have my heart set on this but if it's bad quality, I'll give it up in a heart beat. Toshiba support in Kuwait is great, actually much better than the showroom. But I want this to last at least 2-4 years. Help, please?
Little problem with my new A100-SK9..
