I'm not looking at a Toshiba to replace all the features my T61 has (mainly, best keyboard ever, solid build, Trackpoint), I'm just looking for a 15.6" notebook with a decent processor/decent screen/at least W7 and USB 3.0.

And I don't know anything about Toshiba notebooks. When I look at the Daily Deals on ebay Toshiba always represents with the majority of the deals from a wide variety of suppliers. For instance:

Today I see (from Toshiba) a Satellite C55-A5100. Specs: 15.6", Core i3-3120m, 6 GB, 750 GB, W8.1 and, yes, one USB 3.0. Refurbished for $354.

That's the kind of deal I'm looking for but, again, I have no idea if this type of Toshiba has major flaws that a guy just wouldn't know about by reading the specs. Or, a guy would not know if in fact this is the deal of the century and I should jump on it right away. What do you think?

Real active forum you got here. I was just in Costco and saw something similar in the "Toshiba Satellite C55 Series" with "Tru Brite" screen and it sure was glossy. The keyboard couldn't have felt more different from my T61 but it feels like it works. There's something about the track pad that's a little off, like laggy or not so sensitive. Or something. Anybody own one?

And now I've learned that you can't change out the battery on the Satellite C55 series. You know, things like that that a guy wouldn't know till he'd bought one.

Personally, I went the other way around (owned a Satellite L505, another cheap Toshiba model, and now I own Thinkpads), and personally I wouldn't bother with their cheap laptops (or any cheap consumer-class, really). My L505 simply wouldn't boot after about two years of use, after careful care and making sure not to drop it or anything like that.

Just a sample of one, but that's just my two cents.
