I'm the sort of person who wants a laptop which is durable, sturdy and well built, I'm looking for something that can be carried around which won't break through mediocre tedious reasons.
My last purchase (brand won't be mentioned, don't want to start flame wars) was built to look nice, the chassis and hinges are delicate and can't widstand much pressure.
I've searched all over the internet looking for a brand I feel I can get value for money which won't sacrifice the main selling point for me: durablity.
Toshiba seems to be regarded highly by many circles for their long lasting durability and build quality (even the low end models)
If I was to purchase a Toshiba in the new year do you beleive I'll be happy with my purchase? (Don't worry about specs, I'll deal with that)
Thank you!

I have said this many times before, and I'll do it again. After what I have experinced with my Qosmio. I'll NEVER buy a Toshiba laptop again.
The most durable laptop I ever owned was a Asus. I have also used HP, which is not good at this. Now, I have a ThinkPad for school. I really feel sorry for that laptop because it is powered on for more then 10 hours each day. I have killed 3 HDD's with it. Last, I bought a SSD and not had a single problem after that. My fan is makeing some rare noises sometimes, but again, I take that as normal. That laptop slams into everyting every day, going from classrom to classrom etc.
If you want a durable laptop, go for an Asus or Lenevo/Thinkpad. Stay away from brands like Toshiba, Acer or HP. -
I'm guessing the same can be said about any brand by the ones or twos. I had a positive experience with my Toshiba, and I'm typing this on a bottom barrel Compaq that has held up very well. That said, I have had lousy experiences with two ACER netbooks and got a Gateway (also Acer) laptop that had a broken webcam right off the bat, so Acer's now out for me.

If you really want a reliable notebook, consider business notebooks. They can be more expensive, but their build quality and their warranty coverage are way better.
In my experience, Toshiba has been a reliable brand, but you can read horror stories about any brand all over the Internet. -

I treat my equipment carefully, but also drag it around the world. My equipment is "durable", but I've watched other travellers and know they will complain their equipment is not.
I also know that within all the major brands, there is a range of price points, and TANSTAAFL (there ain't no such thing as a free lunch). Noticibly less expensive also means corners were cut.
Two tips, yes "business class" notebooks tend to be more durable (but the same isn't always true for "luxury class" notebooks), and it's been documented that as a whole, custom built notebooks are better than off-the-shelf (cookie cutter) units.
I have a custom built U500. It looks the same as the U505 from the store shelves, but trust me, looks are not everything. -
Hi guys, went with an Asus
Looking for another notebook I can rely on?
