Looks like Amazon just lowered the price on the Qosmios!

...I said this in my review, didn't you notice? They all got $200+ rebates. It's been going on for a couple of days.

Costco has also followed suit, they're offering the same price on the Q887 and $1049.99 on the Q885.

Nope never saw that, but you know what? This should have its own thread anyway because probably a lot of people will now see it in a title instead of buried in a review. And $999.999 is still better than $1,049.99. :p

Yeah, but I thought you wanted the i7, and the Q887 has it.

Slow down, killer. I'm not saying I was posting this for me. I figured that this is a Toshiba Notebook forum, people here MIGHT just be interested in a huge price cut like this, and who knows, smeone sitting on the fence or perhaps only wanting to spend a meager $999.99 for a relatively high end gaming right might be interested in the lower end Qosmio. I also posted the price for the Q890.

I am still considering the Asus G73JH, but you know what? I have been around various forum communities for many years, and I try to contribute something for other people. :p

I tend to trust Amazon a little more than an eBay seller, that does looke like a good deal without sales tax. That's the one problem with Amazon, even with the super saver shipping. You have to add around $80+ dollars to your thousand dollar purchase depending on the state. FOr me, though. it is not a better deal. Because I live in NY City, and that seller is based out of NY. So for anyone in NY State, they will be paying the sales tax.

    Yes it is.

We should probably use this thread for any great deals people see on the Qosmio, since the price seems to be universally coming down.

I just found out that Amazon doesn't charge sales tax, at least not for CA orders. That's an amazing deal!

J&R has slashed prices for the entire Qosmio x505 line, they also charge no tax outside NY state:

    Q885 $974.99
Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q885 18.4" Notebook PC - Omega Black in PC Notebook Computers at JR.com

    Q887 $1246.99
    http://www.jr.com/toshiba/pe/TOS_X505Q887/

    Q888 $1379.99
Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q888 18.4" Notebook PC - Omega Black in PC Notebook Computers at JR.com

    Q890 $1629.99
Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q890 18.4" Notebook PC - Omega Black in PC Notebook Computers at JR.com

Hopefully, all these slashes mean the next-gen of Qosmios is not too far...

Very odd: Amazon kicked their price of the 885 up by $49.99 for some reason.

That's cause retailers are running out of stock. I think a Q885 will be fairly difficult to find in a month's time. Unfortunately, I was hoping the Q885 would still be around to serve as a clutch in case the next Qosmio wasn't to my liking...that's looking less and less likely.

Still, the lack of new stock must mean the new models aren't too far out.

I REALLY hope that Toshiba does a few things with the next line of Qosmios:

    1. Put a REAL damned graphics card in there! The 360m is over a yeart outdated piece of crap that wasn't that hot a year ago.
    2. Fix the keyboard issues that so many people have been complaining aout.
    3. Keeps the 18.4 inch screen and the great sound that people have been raving about from the internal speakers.
    4. Makes 1080p stadard on ALL models and resolves any lingering issues some people (yourself included) complained about the 1080p screen in the present models.

They used to have it from JR; JR doesn't list it any more, so the Amazon price you are seeing is the next lowest from another retailer.

Assuming that Toshiba goes with Nvidia and Intel in the next Qosmios, what options does it have to replace the 360M?

The 460m looks somewhat promising, at least on paper. The 285 is also the best single Nvidia card right now other than the 480, which I seriously doubt would be included in this class of laptops in the next few months. If Toshiba wants to make the next Qosmio in the G73's category of quality and refuses to go with the 5870, then the 285 is probably their best option.

I agree with 1-3, but I don't think 1080p is such a big deal. There are lots of people who actually prefer HD+, and I think it'd be stupid not to at least provide such an option. Though, the screen should be top-notch, 1080p or not.

However, if I'm sure of anything, it's that Toshiba will NOT use the GTX 285. Any new "gaming" laptop that doesn't support DX11 by the end of 2010 will just be asking for annihilation. If the new Qosmio doesn't go ATi (or AMD now), then it's almost certain to use the 460m, or the newly discovered 470m.

ChiroVette, you're being abit overly hard on the 460m. It's almost certain to top the 285, at the very least.

Actually, I don't think it will. The notebook video care review page (GPU lineup I think it is) placed the anticipation of the 460 pretty low, higher than the 360, but substantially below the 5870 and 285, which I tend to agree is going to be the case. I don't know anything about the 70 line of laptop GPU's so I cannot speak about the 470.

Oh and as for the 1080p, I don't think you understood my point. I don't want Toshiba to FORCE everyone to have to have 1620 X 1080, I just DO NOT believe that in this day and age of technology that people should have to pay several hundred dollars to have the full HD resolution as some kind of an "option." You are right about the DX11 support, and I agree that this is the one area where the 460m would be all right, but I disagree with you that it will top or even be on par with the 285 for raw performance.

Sure, four years ago, I would agree that it was a lot harder to make the bumped up res, so the extra money was justified. But now that everyone and their brothers are making 1080p screens, it should be a free upgrade, or maybe a small fee nowhere near a few hundred dollars.

You need to check the NotebookCheck GPU page again, the 460m is listed above the 285. Only the 470m and FirePro M7820 are between it and the 5870.

Comparison of Laptop Graphics Cards - Notebookcheck

Of course, none of this means alot without benchmarks. The rest of your points are valid.

They must have updated that page for some reason, because I have that page saved as a bookmark, and the last time I browsed it, they had the 460m lower than that and lower than the 285m as well. Again, like yoiu said, though, this doesn't mean anything without benchmarks. Wonder when the card will officially be released and tested?

I'm optimistic that it won't be too long. Toshiba is announcing a bunch of other new products (check out Engadget), and Nvidia's 460m launch should happen in a week or two.

Yeah the new Toshiba's look like they are going to be sweeeeeet gaming rigs. Though, since it appears they will be launched for the holiday season, I doubt that they will be making use of the next gen of CPU's and will stick with the i7's and i5's.

i5 won't get a huge boost from Sandy Bridge, other than integrated graphics, because it's already 32nm. i7's will, because right now they're using hot 45nm architecture.

It's funny that you say that, because a buddy of mine and I were talking about that same issue. Even though the i7 is a better chip, the i5 has the benefit of newer architecture, and in some ways is better than the i7.
