Looking at a M105 for a empoyee. However, I have seen good/bad about Toshiba's satellite build quality, but many are 9 months old. I would like current comments, eg will this machine survive 2 years of average abuse?

    Thanks

My Portege 4010 survived 4 years and was still going strong with no hardware failures or anything, the case was a tad chipped but nothing was cracked or remotely broken anywhere. Sam goes for my old Satellite 3000.

My current L100 is very sturdy for a budget end plastic (I think) laptop, with no flex and a meaty keyboard feel.

I have an M105-S3041 and I'm impressed with the build quality - especially since I paid just $750 for it. At first I thought I had some dead pixels but it turned out to be speck of something under the screen. Also had concerns about the recharging inlet on the back - but it turned out to not be a problem. Very solid system - absolutely zero marks/blemishes/jimmied screws. LCD is well-protected by the lid. Only one easily accessible RAM slot - came with 512-mb and I added another 512. After almost three months of owning my M105 - I have to say that I am thrilled with it - with the caveat that mine has/had a minor LCD issue. For the money - I don't think you can beat these little Toshiba's.

Keep in mind that the Satellite M105 is a "consumer" grade laptop. That means it is not built as sturdy as "business" grade machines such as the Tecra models. The build quality of the M105 is very good compared to other machines in the same price range, but if durability is a concern, you should probably consider spending a little more for a business grade machine.
