I just bought a M115-3094 computer for my wife. It has an additional 1 Gig card and a wireless microsoft mouse. Far too often, the machine completely locks up and the only way to clear it is to remove the battery pack. It seems to be related to the hibernation mode, or maybe when the USB connector for the mouse is connected/disconnected.

What can I do for diagnostics to figure out why it is locking up?

What exactly lock up are you referring to? I need some more information.

    - Does your machine gets hibernating or stay in " standby mode" when you close the lid? - if so , just simply press the power button and it'll turn on. I myself doesn't like Hibernation at all/ Turn On and OFF is enough.

    - Please tell me more about the issue, what step did you do and the laptop turn to "lock up" mode?

Most often, it locks up when the lid is closed for a while and then opened. The power button is lit with a blue light. Sometimes the screen is completely black, other times the screen has what was on it when the lid was closed. Pressing the power button does nothing.

Other times, boot the computer up without first putting in the USB thing for the wire less mouse. When we do plug in the USB module, the computer locks up. Again, pressing the power button or CTRL-ALT-DEL does nothing. It does not respond to any input at all, and never recovers if it sits for 10 minutes.

Not sure what to suggest really! Could be a faulty motherboard or perhaps a driver problem. How old is your windows install and when did it start doing this?

It is the original windows install "Media Center". The problem has existed since it was new.

It could be a driver problem though. I used the "Add/Remove Programs" when I first got it to try to get rid of all the trash software. Maybe this corrupted something?

I see there are registry cleaning software packages available. Do they really work, and if so, what would you recommend?

    Is it still under warranty?
