I bought my M30 few days ago and have a quick question. The buttons on the outside with the mode, play, pause, etc. Those don't work in Windows for me with Windows Media Player. Also, I have yet to try playing a CD without turning on the laptop, but i assume its easy (and that I can do DVDs as well, and that the buttons will work for that).
Anything else cool or whatever I can/should know about this laptop. The heat isn't that big of a problem at all for the posts regarding that I've seen around the internet. Damn the sound is better on this then the P10 too. Haha.
Anyways, help soon! Bye.

Are your running the system with the original OS load or did you reload the system using XP Pro? If you reloaded the OS, then that could be the problem. I've heard that some systems (not Toshiba specifically) has a seperate partition that is utilized when you hit the buttons on the outside. This eliminates the need for the OS to bootup. The only thing I can suggest would be to re-load the original OS (that's if you're not running the original). Make sure you backup all your data. I can't guarantee this will resolve the problem. It might be as simple as configuring some software to allow those keys to work, but I'd assume that would already be setup with the original OS.

I'm using the original BIOS, I've already tried restoring the system with the CD, didn't fix anything. I just can't get the buttons to control WMP.

****, I JUST GOT IT TO WORK. Hah, I love forums...
Thanks for any responses.
One more thing, what is the difference between the 2 mode lights: 1) music sign with cd and 2) music signs with DIGITAL words. -
It's great that you got the problem resolved, but it would also be good if you could share on what you did to resolve the problem. This is so that any other users with a similar problem will be able to fix the problem. Thanks.
The 2 mode lights probably means that it's either playing a CD or Digital media (MP3).

Hey mate I'd be interested to know what you did to get the mode control buttons working. I have exactly the same problem & mine is an out of the box configuration. If you could respond with your solution that would be great. I really don't want to have to blow my current OS away. Cheers.
P.S. I think the M30 notebook rules! -
Its an old post, yet for people who r still looking for answer (which I myself was looking for since few months).
Here is the answer
Just keep the mode button pressed for 6-8 seconds and ther u see the light. Myself tried it suddenly without my knowledge after much searching on the internet.
Hope it helps someone out there. I post replies when I myself had difficulty in finding the solution after many hours and sessions of internet search and I dont find the solution.
