Hi,
The black plastic trim surrounding the LCD screen on my laptop broke after only a few months, from regular opening and closing. It was never abused. I called Toshiba Canada, and also went to one of their repair depots. Both will not fix it under warranty. They say there is no known issue with it, and that plastic components are not warrantied. I launched a complaint, and they are supposed to call me back tommorrow. I checked the fineprint on the warranty, and it says this too.
Still, I think it a defect with my product and I expect better service considering the price of the unit. Has anybody ever had this problem, and/or have any suggestions about how I could get Toshiba to fix it under warranty? Would it be possible to obtain the part and fix it myself?
Thanks,
Chris

You may want to talk to them on what is covered under warranty. This is not a "plastic component". Plastic components are usually the HDD bay cover, memory slot cover, wireless slot cover, etc.... This is considered to be part of the notebook/LCD chassis and therefore should be covered under warranty. If they can prove/show that you physically damaged the bezel then I can see it not being covered under warranty. But if there's no signs of physical damage I'd push for them to repair it under warranty. I've repaired enough Toshiba notebooks to know this is one item that shouldn't break unless it's due to a manufacturers defect of some sort.
