hey guys, has anyone has purchased this laptop had any problems with the USB not working when installing the following software:
    Windows XP Pro
    XP SP 1
    XP SP 2
This laptop came with XP Home, so I upgraded this to XP Pro. The USB was still working after doing this. I then installed SP1, and the USB ports now don't seem to be working. I then installed SP 2, with the same results. Any ideas why?

When you said you upgraded to XP Pro from XP Home, did you wipe the HDD first or install right on top of XP Home? If you installed on top, this might cause a problem. It's possible that all the updates may have had some unwanted problems. The best thing to do is to reload the system from scratch (reformat the HDD), but make sure you backup all your data before doing so. Also, download all the Toshiba drivers for this unit and burn onto CD before wiping drive (you're gonna need network drivers to get on the web, might as well have them burned on CD first).

If you are installing WinXP Pro with out SP1, you don't need to install SP1 then SP2. Install WinXP Pro then install SP2. SP1 is not needed since SP2 has all the SP1 updates plus all the SP2 updates in the same package and installs what is needed. Also it sounds like the you corrupted your Intel INF chipset drivers during your install process. I would install in the following order

    WinXP Pro
    SP2
then install your Intel INF Chipset drivers

That way the SP2 install will not corrupt the inital drivers and the proper IDE, AGP, USB,and Network drivers are proper.

Yip, I did a install on top of the XP Home (like an upgrade basically). When the pc is shipped, it is shipped with a recovery disk which automatically install XP Home. So I think I would need to do a fresh install of XP Pro, then install all the toshiba drivers and utilities again, hearing from Vb's comments.
thanks guys. Will try it out.
