Has anyone out there seen or researched the upgrade potential of this unit?` It is a great deal for a basic laptop (they're reselling on eBay for $650 to $700 average), but I forsee my need for greater cpu speed, DVD+/-RW, & memory capacity for multi-media work in the fairly near future. The DVD+/- RW is available out there, and the RAM can be upped to over 2G, but what about the CPU, etc. [?]

Most notebooks out there now should be able to have their CPU upgraded, it's just a matter of how difficult it will be to upgrade. The M35X is a Celeron M/Pentium M based notebook, so the CPU upgrade potential is good as these CPU's are available all over the place (including eBay). You may be able to jump a few CPU speeds up, but I wouldn't push it too far as the cooling unit may not be able to handle it. Check on the Toshiba USA site and custom build an M35X and see what's the fastest CPU they have listed for this unit. You chould then be able to jump it another 1-2 speeds above that.
