    Hi all,

Highly appreciate if I can get your help for my Toshiba M35X-S111. Month ago, the screen turned to dark status, as all the back lite for screen gone. I can still see the screen works, but with no backlight.

Can any one help me to explain the reason of this fault, as I still do not fully understand it.

I jut went thru the irisvista website, but before i can follow any instruction there, I need to know the reason of this symptom.

Thanhs guy in advance for help.

It sounds like the back light has quit working. There is a tiny glass ccfl bulb (2mmx340mm) that is on the bottom edge of the LCD screen and for what ever reason it has failed. They cost about $20 on eBay, but are very fragile and easy to break when you try to install it. If you are not sure if you can do it yourself, buy a replacement LCD for $100 to $125. They are much easier to replace with a few common tools.

Also it could be the inverter. Thats a small circuit board mounted below the LCD screen in LCD cover. The backlight plugs into the inverter and the inverter plugs into the main board.

    Thanks, Jernkar for your help.

I myself hope that's the inverter rather than the bulb (it's sure to be more fragile than the inverter.

One more issue: when I tried to use the 17" external monitor, there is no signal from the VGA output, thus the monitor go straight to sleep mode. i still do not understand the reason after. Can you please help on that also?

    Thanks

Make sure the external monitor option is enabled in the BIOS.

Oh my GOD, it may be the straight issue. Why should I just overlooked it?
So here, at this point we have to look at the BIOS, make adjustment, then check the output.

    Thanks so much, Jernkar.

I hope I can have my friend fix it now.
