I'll explain. Ever since I've had this laptop (for 1 year now), I've had this problem: at complete random occurences, the computer suddenly stops to respond, I can move the mouse cursor, but the display AND the processing is frozen... This lasts for a couple of seconds, then the mouse cursor stops moving too. This also lasts maybe a second or two and then the display turns itself off, for maybe 2 seconds, and then POOF, everything is back up and working, as if nothing happened. Once or twice, it ended up in a real crash, but most of the time, it only does this.

Now, depending on the setup, it sometimes can happen as often as a couple of times per day, once per day, or once in great while. For the last year, I have not been able to pinpoint the source of the problem, and I'm wondering if I'm the only one to have this problem.

I thought that when I was using the original recovery DVD to install Windows, it was not occuring, but now it seems that it's not the case, as I've just reinstalled windows from that disc 3 days ago, and it happened to me 2~3 times already.

I'm at a loss. Somebody has an idea?

You might have a hardware or heat issue then. I'd consider using a clean version of Windows and start from scratch if you can.

    Thanks for the reply.

I don't know if it can be heat, because as I said, it has no link to whatever I do, everytime it happened to me, I was simply browsing the 'net or programming in visual studio, for example.

As for reinstalling from scratch, I did just that, about 3 times in the last month. Once with a version of XP I found on the 'net. I thought it might have been the reason, but 3 days ago, I just reinstalled it using Toshiba's Recovery DVD that came with the system, and it's still doing it.

It might have a defective MOBO - people have been complaining about an occasional "beep" eminating from their notebook and had to get their MOBO replaced. Your's might have the same problem, except your notebook might be reacting differently to the problem.

Okay... Having read some posts before posting my own query, I have indeed read these posts. I also found out that it was the closest problem to what I'm experiencing that others have had. Thanks for the hint.

I'm still wondering if anyone else have had the exact same symptoms. I must always have weird problems, I must be cursed.

O.K. - I'm just trying to help you - what I've stated has been the closest thing that has been happening to this model that relates to your problem. As I've stated, it is a hardware/external related problem, probably related to the MOBO, as reinstalling software has not been an effective solution.

    Oh no! Hey! Sorry guys!

That's not what I meant at all, I had not an ounce of sarcasm with this reply! Maybe it's just because I'm not a native english speaker, but it didn't feel like that to me at all.

I just wanted to point out that xAMDvsIntelx had a point and by telling that to me, it reinforced my belief that it might have something to do with the beeping issue others had.

No problem heaveny! ;) I'd look into getting a replacement for your notebook's MOBO from either Toshiba or the retailor you bought it from.
