i recently updated my m40-jm3 laptop to bios version 1.20 and i have noticed that my screen is noticeably dimmer, even when having all screen settings to high. Anyone else experience this? im on the phone with tohisba tech now and they have no idea what to do. Anyone?

Basically the M40 is bright enough (indoor) even if you set to minimum brightness due to its glossy screen characteristic, Toshiba has released a newer bios version (1.6 for Nvidia user and 1.8 for Intel user), I'm not sure if it helps, but you can give it a try. You can find the bios here:

If the newest version can't help, you may want to revert back to the older version to see if there are any difference, if no, then it'll be a malfunction I believe

When updating the BIOS, just make sure this BIOS is designed for your specific model. Putting in an incorrent BIOS may void the warranty on your systemboard (since you purposely screwed it up) and that's gonna cost you bigtime. US models and Canadian models differ slightly, so the BIOS versions may not be 100% compatible. Just goto the Toshiba website for your region and download from there.

Regarding the dimness of the LCD, it could be by design of the new BIOS. Possibly to save on battery power or to prevent the backlight from prematurely burning out.
