I'm trying to upgrade my M40 to WinXP Pro or Win2003 server(originally is supplied XP home).

    1. Doing upgrade installation to XP pro everything seems fine except that i have always problem extracting MS KB patches. I'm getting always "file is corrupt" error message. I checked internet it seems that no one has the same problem.

    2. Making XP pro installation from the scratch (formatting the partition), i get messages that some files are missing (using my XP Pro SP2 CD). File names vary from time to name, but i' was never able to complete it.

    3. I succeeded in windows 2003 server installation but i have driver problems and still i'm getting "file is corrupt" error message trying to extract MS patch files.

    4. I tried knoppix as well (just for check), installation fails very soon (no error message).

    5. When i restore original XP home from Toshiba everything worx fine.

If u have any link/suggestion please help. I'm loosing my 5th day on this one, i'm desperate... but i really like my truebright toshiba screen

p.s. i tried bios upgrade to 1.20, but it didn't help.

Is the XP Pro disc scratched? Had a similar problem, just made a copy of the disc. Worked fine.

Tnx 4 the suggestion, i expected this problem also, so i created myself already a copy of windows. it didn't help.

BUT, let me inform u that i suceeded in the meanwhile:
    1. NTFS quick format (after Win2003 installation)
    2. Installation of WinXP fails (one file was missing), i inserted WIn2003 server CD (!), file was succesfully installed.
    3. I continued using original WinXP cd
    4. Eveything worx fine
    5. I enjoy my xtrabright toshiba display i winXP pro

    Tnx

Now, after a few days i have discovered possible problems with my Mat****a DVD Ram.

For sure i have some problems with burning CDs/DVDs, probably there are some reading problems as well. I see there is no support for this Mat****a DVD Ram... no firmware, drivers... nothing, i've seen lot of guys out there complaining about this device.

There is a DVD-Ram driver available on the Toshiba Canada webste for their drives. Maybe you need this installed for it to work properly.
