Or am I just (un)lucky? Anyone else have screen problems? And not the blank screen on standby, but real problems?

I've had screen distortion problems from the first day I got it. Sent it in for repair and the LCD was replaced. This temporarily fixed the problem, but the real problem is the connection between the screen and something else.

It's back at Toshiba for repair, and it's been sitting there waiting for a part since 9/13. Two weeks for a part! Good thing I upgraded to express service.

Which screen do you have on your M400, SXGA or WXGA?

Users' comments about M400 in the cnet review also were very critical.

I've got the SXGA (1400x1050). That and the core duo were the 2 things that led to my selection of the M400.

Cnet's user comments aren't worth much, since most of the poster don't even own the product they're ripping on.

I stopped following the comments when cnet allowed users to post their ratings of products before they were even available to the public.

Hmm, I thought that I'd recently seen user polls in pc mag or pc world that rated Toshiba very high for support. Maybe they're going through what Dell just got over.

Two weeks? That's quite a bit of time. I would call and see what's happening with your notebook and keep tabs on it. I had a part blow out in a relative's Qosmio, and they got it back to them in a week.

I've been calling almost every day, and it's always, "oh, give us 48 hours". The part was scheduled to come in yesterday, but the support site is not updated. Today, when I tried to call toshiba support, they gave the standard "busier than normal" crap and then the home started ringing and some IT support guy from Siemens answered and said they were having trouble with their phone system and he would take a message for someone from support to call back.
