I have sent my laptop M405-S8003 tablet PC for service to toshiba depot and got the laptop back with a new motherboard and when i tried to recover the computer, the cd that came with the computer for recovery that says M400/M405 series gives me an error "WRONG MACHINE". I Spoke with the toshiba and they mailed me a CD that says M400 on it only.. and when i treid that it worked.

Does that mean they put me a M400 motherboard instead of my M405 or what? and how can i check which motherboard i have in the computer..

in the advanced system information, it tells me that the model is Portege M400..

please help me and as quick as possible.
    Thank you

Yeah, they changed the motherboard on you. Those two series probably use the same exact parts though but the BIOS are flashed with different values.

Most likely yes. Now, keep in mind that there may be no difference between the two motherboards.

why would the M400 CD work and not the M400/M405

The CD checks the BIOS to see if it is the right machine. If it is, it works. Most likely, your new motherboard had different values that required a different CD.

The physical hardware is probably the same. The firmware running the part might be a little different though. That is what I meant.
