I am pleaed thus far - 2.0 Ghz Centrino; 1 Gig ram; 100 MG Fijutsu HD; Nice screen. Al for for under $1,300 at the big CC with 24 month no interest financing.

Connectivity is wonder with it's Intel 2200 and my Linksys WRT54GS router. I mean , it's fast.

Battery life not great - anbout 2.5 hours. But knew that going into it.

Impressed with the performance of this laptop- rivals my tower P4 3.2Ghz system for most applications so far.

Does not look to be the sturdy workhorse that say a T43 Lenovo/IBM is- but this unit will primarily be used around the house.

Those are my thoughts so far- CC gives until the 8th of January to return if there are issues. But so far- really surprised and pleased.

As a follow up- just ran the Super Pi algorythm with the following results:

1:40 with wireless turned on and Zone Alarm on

1:39 with wireles off and Zone Alarm off

This seems decent as compared to the tests and reviews on other notebooks I've read here.

So far- I am liking this unit :)

Contemplating upgrading the memory from 1 to 2 gig.

Seems like a great notebook! I personally like the M40/M50/M60 out of the Satellite series, as they're the most stylish IMO. However, I was dissapointed that Toshiba didn't put a better GPU in their retail notebooks :( Hopefully they'll put a better GPU in next time! Nice notebook BTW!

if i'm not mistaken basically the M45 is the retail version of the M40 without a better GPU option.
the M40 is one of the options on my shortlist so far, but have been put off by some comments about the build quality.
can you give a few more details about its sturdiness, hinges, flex, etc.
i plan to use my next notebook around 3 years without changing it, so just want to be sure before i go out and get one.
    thanx

Well yes, the M45 is the retail version of the M40, however, here in the States we get jipped out of the GPU :( About your other question: the Satellite has above average build quality IMO. There shouldn't be too much flex anywhere, although the keyboard/lid may give a little.

I will be perfectly honest- I am not familar enough with laptops to make a call on it's build quality. Never owned a laptop before.

However, seems built well enough. But it does not impress me as a travel warrior - like say the IBM Thinkpad series.

I got a reasonable price and 24 month zero interest financing throu CC.

The one weakness is the video memory- 128MB off memory(not a separate card). For my purposes - Surfing; MS Office applications; email; very light gaming - it's more than adequate. For the price- not a bad configuration.

So far - please with the unit. Still early- if it falters before January 8th, then back it goes to CC. But I really like what I see so far.
