I have an M45-S359. It is 3 yrs old. Overall it has been a great computer. Anyhow, recently I started having problems with it not wanting to go past the Toshiba splash screen.

I can't figure out what is causing this problem. It would be nice to figure it out since it is a great computer. I am running XP on it. I have completely reinstalled the Toshiba original software and the problem continues.

I have reinstalled two times. As a side note, after install, I update with MS. SP2 and SP3. After the reinstallation I do remove most of the bloatware via the add/remove programs (AOL, ATT, McAfee, MS Office trial, etc).

It seems the problem has to do with the Toshiba Power Utility, but I am not sure since I am not modifying it at all. But the problem may also be with graphics.

Upon start up the first screen is the Toshiba splash screen. To the right of the screen there is a rectangular Toshiba advertising. If the rectangle is the way to the right side, the computer will start. Other times it will be about 1 inch from the right side, in effect creating a screen which is about 3/4 width of the actual screen size - in those situations it will NOT go past the Toshiba splash screen.

This seems to never happen when starting with a cold computer (hasn't been run for the last 30 to 45 minutes). If the computer has been running for some time then if you shut down and start up again, the problem will rear its ugly head.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    TIA for any tips.

I guess no one has seen this problem. Any recommendations of a different forum(s) where someone might have some ideas?

    TIA
