This machine is a month old. I did succeed to burn only 2 dvd discs, video content, and that was with the default software, SONIC. DVD drive is a Mat****a UJ-841S.
I noticed this one is very sensitive to reading discs therefore is ejecting to many to often. I have installed a NERO ROM 6.0.0.0 version. Since then every time I try to burn a disc I get the same error at the end of process: "could not perform end of disc-at-once" and next "burn process failed at 2.4x"
I have to mention that "disc-at-once" option is disabled.
    Anyone can help?

What CDs are you using? Toshibas won't burn on lower-end quality stuff like TDKs/Fujifilm for some reason. Try using Memeorex and see if that helps any.

Nero 6.0 is buggy. Upgrade that if your key allows. Taiyo Yudens are considered to be the best blanks, both CDs and DVDs. Good Luck.

I'll try your suggestions. I have the feeling is not the dvds brand that causes problems since the two verbatim worked.
    Thanks

Looks more like a software problem rather than media problem to me. Do you have DLA installed? APSI?
Try upgrading your drive's firmware and get the latest nero 6. I repeat nero 6, not nero 7. Also i suggest removing the sonic, it may be causing compatibility issues with nero.

And verbatim make really good DVD blanks, even better than the TY some would say

Nero info tool says ASPI not installed. Nero ASPI is present but I have to set on every time I open info tool.
I will ceck out the other sugestions too. I consider to put to sleep SONIC.
    Thanks

f/w = firmware. A firmware is an embedded software contained in EPROM or flash memory of your DVD drive. The firmware may need an update...

    I couldn't find any firmware.
Toshiba support site doesn't even post M70's model on www.cds.toshiba etc

New Nero 6 means latest version or re-installing 6.0?

Its like the cdrw, but in dvd format. A DVD which can be erased & rewritten. Usually i use DVDRWs for testing so that i dont waste my blanks.

I want you to perform another test after you have upgraded nero. Fire up Nero CD-DVD speed, and try the overburning test (Extra->Overburning Test). If the test is successful, then try the benchmark test and the disc quality test. Post your results

Yeah! I have a re-writeable dvd. I will do that first as you say!
But Sonic (DLA) was as default on my machine, you think these guys would put a malware on a brand new piece called Toshiba?

CDBurnerXP and DeepBurner are both free and work well for the basics if you need some software. Nero generally allows you to upgrade for a bit. I don't know where they stopped for 6.0. There are some older versions Nero 6 on oldversion.com or you could try P2P to see if you can find an older version that works with your key. You can also buy an OEM copy of Nero 6, a later version, for less than $10 on eBay. I'd agree on the packet writing software. InCD, DLA, DirectCD they are all flakey. Good Luck.

I uninstalled existing dvd burners from retailer and I do have a Nero 7 now. Everything worked from the beggining with this one. I did overburn, DL too. You were right, it seemed like a software problem. By the way I did all this with ASPI uninstalled as W XP was showing in the first place.
Other than that this is a great machine!
    Thanks a lot!

I know this post is old, but I was having the same issue when I first bought my laptop. One thing I found was that if I had the Toshiba "quiet" application enabled for the dvd that it would fail to complete any dvd from burning. Once I disabled it, it worked like a charm.

    Hope this helps!

I am a linux user, and have had no problems burning using gnomebaker and k3b.

Toshiba advises you not to use their Acoustic Silencer when burning or ripping from DVDs/CDs. It should only be used when you're watching a DVD or playing a CD for example.
