I have a Toshiba Satellite a105-s2071. System specs are as follows:
Intel Celeron Processor 1.70 GHz
Running Windows Vista Ultimate Service Pack 1 32 bit
The computer came with 1 512 MB ram module. A few days ago I bought 2 pny 1 GB sticks, placed them in the slots, and was hoping to be wowed by my new speedy system. However, I was horrified to have the computer not work at all. When I pressed the power switch, the computer acted as if it was going to come on,everything sounded as if it was starting up and then seconds later gave a small beep and cpmpletely shut down and restarted. It did this several time before I finally gave up. So far all the answers I have seen on this board and on the web is that this is either the wrong or bad memory, but I have the exact chips PNY and Toshiba call for. I did their memory thing on their website, and the part number is MN1024SD2553, and unless they have the packaging wrong, this should work. One thing I did notice that was weird was that on their site they say my laptop should have came with 1G of memory, but mine only had a single 512mb chip. In my confusion and frustration, I tried any combo I could.
1G chip A +1G Chip B= No Start
1G Chip A in any of the slots= No Start
512 Orginal + 1G Chip A= Start of windows and 1.5G memory
512 Orginal + 1G Chip B = Start of windows and 1.5G memory
That's the whole confusing problem: both chips seem to be good. I did a memory test on both just to check and nothing has came up but they won't work together or alone, only with the 512 orginal in. If anybody could shed some light on this, I would be really appreciative. This is the laptop I will be using for school but it was too slow to run Vista and be good enough. I thought I would come here first because from what I have seen looking over these froums the past 3 days, there is al ot of knowledgable people on this website. Plus, I know that Toshiba will just try and sell me something I problaby don't need.
Thank you very much for your time and any assistance you can be for me with my problem.
