I've now got my M40 and for the most part it's excellent. I have a few questions though:

    1. I can't find the place where I can change the aspect ratio setting so that when the display runs in 1024x768 mode it will not distort the image. Can someone tell me where the setting is located? I looked in the nVidia control pannel that is accessable from the Control Pannel, as well as the one that is accessable from the Display Control Pannel. It is possible that I just didn't see it, but I've looked several times now.

    2. When I do certian basic things such as open the "All Programs" list afer not having accessed it for a while, or when I right click on a file to get it's right click menu, the computer will take up to 4-5 seconds to display the menu. Also, when I highlight a file and press Ctrl-C to copy it and then go somewhere else to past it it will take several seconds before the computer responds to the copy paste operation (these are small files, so that's not the issue) Is this a normal behaviour? It seems kind of odd.

    Thanks!

    1. The feature should be listed in the Advanced Display Properties of your graphics card, or should be located somewhere in the NVidia Control Panel (possibly the advanced section). If not there, you may want to try the BIOS to disable stretching.

    2. This could be related to some programs running in the background. Manufacturers tend to load up their systems with a lot of junk that is not necessary. You may want to try disabling some of the services/programs running in the background and see if it helps. You can either disable them through the actual program or running MSCONFIG and disable some of the Startup items. You can also temporarily remove them from memory by hitting Ctrl+Alt+Del, goto Processes, right click on the app you want to kill from memory and click End Process Tree. This will remove the app/process and any sub processes that are related to this app from memory.

To access the display ratio properties:

    1. Display Properties (through control panel)
    2. Settings Tab
    3. Click on "Advanced" button
    4. Click on "GeForce 6600" tab
    5. Click "nView parameters" or something like that, in the left box
    6. Click the "Monitor parameters" or something like that button, click on "monitor properties" (mine text is in french so I'm not sure about the correct text for you).

    That's it. It's a step-by-step guide :)

I disabled some of the programs running the taskbar and the delays seem to have stopped, but they wouldn't happen all the time before, so I can't be sure.

Thanks heaveny38! I didn't notice that button before! You'd think that a setting like that would be on one of the main nVidia control pannel tabs instead of burried under several sub-menus.

    You're welcome :)

I'm the kind who checks all the buttons and switches one by one :)
