    Hey,

I'm looking to buy a used 14" Toshiba, and really need a 16:10 display. Price should be around 350, but that's not a big deal.

What are the latest models to use 16:10 ratios? My girlfriends L505 (15.6" 16:10) was the last generation (before they switched to 16:9) I think, so anywhere from that generation or before is good. Ideally, that generation. Can be Satellite, Satellite Pro, or any other family.

    Thanks.

(OR, by any chance, if anyone in the US is interested in buying for me a Satellite L640 from toshiba direct this weekend, let me know)

All of the current and last generation Toshiba's I have seen are 16:9 (15.6" is 16:9 btw, 15.4" is 16:10). AFAIK there are no current notebooks with 16:10 aspect ratio except the Apple MBP.

Ebay or Craigslist is your best bet. I have four 16:10 laptops that I would never part with although a 14.1 or a 13.3 screen in the 16:9 doesn't look to bad.

    A Dell Vostro 1400 is 16x10.

Notebooks with the Core 2 Duo CPUs will have 16:10 displays. Many (but not all) notebooks changed to 16:9 with the introduction of the Core i series CPUs.

Good rule of thumb but towards the end of the C2D life cycle the 16x9 format began to make its appearance. I purchased a 16" Tosh laptop in mid 2009 with a C2D and it had a 16x9 screen.

Ok, thanks for the Dell Vostro model, I have been looking at them and IBM T61s on ebay.

Any other good C2D 14" 16:10s to keep an eye out for?

    thanks

I'd check the Dell outlet for the Latitude E6400.

Dell E6410 is also 16:10 - Dell held out against 16:9 on that model.

The answer seems to have been Satellite M305 by the way.

But I am now very very interested in the Dell E6400 and will try to snipe one on ebay. Also, WTB.

    Thanks.

Don't forget the Dell Outlet Store, they are in stock last I checked including the E6410 and don't forget to check here for Outlet coupons to maximize savings. :)
