I just got a new Toshiba e105 and I don't think I've ever had to encounter this many problems with a laptop. Along with the high-pitched noise from the front left, programs not being compatible with Vista 64, terrible TERRIBLE sound (I miss Toshiba Virtual Sound), the music also skips whenever the computer movies. For example, if it's on my bed and I'm just moving around. There's a program running called Toshiba HDD Protection. Does that have anything to do with this?

I previously owned a A105 for three years with absolutely no problems. I thought it would be great to upgrade to a higher-end Toshiba... now I'm slightly regretting it.

Yes, the hard drive protection is causing this. It parks the drive head whenever you move it. Try decreasing the sensitivity in the Toshiba HDD Protection program, if you can. Or, turn it off completely, but understand that there will be the risk that if you drop your laptop, your hard drive could sustain some heavy damage and data loss.

The high pitched noise is termed the "Penryn whine," and sometimes occurs on the Penryn processors, although I've never had that issue. It can be resolved by messing with some power management settings.

I don't know what programs you're talking about, but pretty much every single one of the programs I use works completely fine in Vista 64-bit.

Seagate Ceedo (for external hard drive)
SRS Audio Sandbox (it works for a day then it cuts off my sound all together)
Autoshutdown (anyone know of a good alternative? or better yet an alarm clock program?)

Those are the only ones I've had problems with so far.

I can also hear the HDD accessing files, which I don't think is normal for a new laptop. I'm concerned that I might have gotten a faulty one. :/
