    Hi,
I've just buy the new M115-S3094 from Circuit city.
    Everythings is OK.
But it is very slow when I boot it up and shut it down
I heard the sound of HDD for about 4 mins when it is booted up.
    Is it going wrong?
    How can I fix it?

you might (1) have a ton of blowtware on it (2) it could be a super slow hard drive i.e 4200 rpm (3) you might not have enough ram or (4) your hard drive is about to crash. 1 can be fixed by doing a clean instal of XP, 2 and 3 can be fixed by adding a faster hard drive or more ram and if the problem is 4 you will have to call in the warrenty

    best of luck

One thing I didn't mention is that you motherboard could be deffective in which case you will have to follow the same steps as (4) but I don't think that is the case

i have 4200 rpm hdd, mine only takes a few seconds to get to the log in screen.

M155 that's toshiba right, (if it is allow for atleast 2-3 hours of your day to be consumed by one support call)

go to circuit city they will probably be able to help you out more, asuming you purchased an extended warrenty through them. if you did'nt you might considere returning it and geting another if you can

Easy. Use the recovery disk and do a fresh install of XP. I have the same laptop, from the same deal and it was slow with all the crap on there. Just do a fresh install of XP and you should be set

I got mine at Best Buy two weeks ago for $599...but that dont matter. I booted it up for the first time with my XP Pro CD and deleted all of the partions....even the recovery or diagnostic one.

The laptop runs great and the size is perfect for me. I used to have a Dell 9300 17inch laptop that was HUGE. It could play games good but I dont play PC games.

Anyhow I added 2gigs of RAM from Crucial and I plan on getting a 12cell battery so it will last longer with Wifi on during battery usuage. Next year this time I will probably upgrade the CPU to a Core 2 T5200 so I can run 64bit Vista.

    Great little laptop!

Shoud be able to. They just a M115 that comes with a T5200 1.6ghz Core 2 CPU.

The CPU's are socketed....and they have a screw the realease them at the back of the socket. Probably will need a BIOS update....but it should work.

Wouldn't the Recovery disks put back all the factory bloatware, trialware and crapware?

how easy is it to change out to a better hard drive (as long as it is 9.5mm SATA)??

I have this same notebook, but wondering which WiFi software to use. The Intel PROset software or the integrated Windows software??
    opinions?

Well, I have a question about getting at the hard drive here:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=27812&page=14
I cannot get the cover off of the hard drive compartment. I have removed about a dozen drives from various laptops, but this one it tough just to get the cover off. Once the cover is off though, I doubt there would be a problem to get the drive out.
The WiFi software that comes with it works for me.

Which? The Toshiba one, the Intel one, or the Windows one?
If you use one over the other, are the other two still installed? And if so, do they cause problems with your holding a connection?

    thanks..

Whichever one comes up as default when you switch the wireless on. Unfortunately I don't have the Toshiba here to check as I bought it for someone else and only had it for about a month.
But it is possible to have more than one wireless software installed and not have them interfere with each other. On my laptop, I have software for three different pcmcia wireless cards installed plus the software for the built-in wireless card. Why so many? Because the built-in card is not very sensitive and I bought the other three which were progressively higher in power to pull in weaker signals.
Whichever card I put into the slot, the correct software runs automatically.

for anyone who has added to memory to this notebook, did you use the same kind that it came with?
Does it matter if you add memory from a different manufacturer??

i was going to purchase another Hynex 512MB stick part number HYMP564S64BP6-C4, which is what came in mine.

Regarding the WiFi software, I use the Intel Proset driver interface rather than the generic Windows interface. I uninstalled the Toshiba ConfigFree software since I didn't feel like it was offering me any extra functionality that I needed. It's really a matter of personal preference though. Any of the three options should work fine for managing your wireless connections.

    I brought 2x 512 kingston's 667 ram. Is rining @ 533, because the cpu’s FSB (S3094 is T2050).
There is any problem running 667 memory @ 533? Is possible set it to run asynchronous (memory @ 667)? Will make any diference?

    Regards!

Intel wireless software eats up way more ram and cpu....you can see it in the taskmanager. The windows sofware works just as well.

I also do not use the Intel Wireless software anymore. Just the Windows one. No problems, and my notebook runs very well without all the junk.

I also recommend AntiVir Antivirus Personal Free edition and Comodo Personal Firewall. They are very effective and high-ranking and are extremely light on resources.

    Hi,

Using only Windows wifi software is possible to switch users without lose wireless network connection?

I noticed that Intel’s PROSet (v10.5.0.3, downloaded from Intel’s site) is very fast to connect and don’t slow down the computer. What is really crap are the others connection software from Toshiba (configfree suit - those one really are hungry for resources)
The only problem with PROSet I’m having is that I can logoff and keep the conection, but I can not switch users. If you use more than one user logged at same time, this kind of limitation is a pain!

    Thanks in advance.
